I have a question on tires. It looks like most people here live in places where it snows a lot. I live in LA and it never snows here and never gets below freezing.

Here's my problem. What in the world should I do if I go up to the snow just for a day or a weekend of skiing?

I have 18" and obviously can't put chains on it (not that I would put chains). And it's far too much hassle to change all 4 tires just for a weekend, then change them back.

Any ideas on what I should do? I recall seeing on an info-mercial one time a plastic-type chain that just kinda of snaps into place. You have 2 halves and put them on the inside and outside of the tire, then snap them together. It was claiming to not damage your tires/rims. Anyone seen that?[???1]

Dont do anything.. Just drive carefully... :)

It certainly isnt worth a new set of tires/rims... Just drive with caution.

You rent a car or take someone else's. Think about it. You've got mud, slush, and salt on those roads. You drive a coupe so you can't fit all that many people with all their equipment either. Do you really wanna be taking it up to go skiing? It'd be much easier to just rent a car or borrow someone's SUV (seems everyone has one in LA) or just carpool with them.

I don't know about you guys, but here's what I'm doing !!!!
I love the 18" rims that come with my car....they look pimp daddy and I don't wanna waste money on smaller, lesser rims. So0o0oo0o, I am going to purchase a set of Dunlop Winter Sport M3 snow tires and have the tires mounted and balanced onto the rims (and obviously I will store the stock Pilot Sport's in my garage) for the winter season. The Winter Sport M3's are supposed to be an amazing balance of dry and snow performance. And I think what I am doing works the best for me...I don't mind paying $50 to have the tires/rims swapped twice a year and I get to keep my cool stock rims and I still get good dry road performance and I won't die in the snow!!!

Just got my new Bridgestone Blizzaks For FREE... they never charged my card for some reason and I "accidently" lost it so I had to cancel it [bigcry] Hope there is another way I can pay them. [rofl]

before i decided to just shelve my car for the winter, and drive my talon tsi awd around. (orders for my parents' x5 came in 2 month early, so we have an extra car now.) before that, i was looking hard at the dunlop m3s. tirerack.com's survey's ranked as number one, and despite the lower actual mileages on em, and i heard it's an improvement over already excellent m2s..

but mr. curb hopper [:p] you you really want to run on fat winter's? even if your rims are really cool.. but then again, you leased your car, and yer prolly saving around 7-800 on 4 rims, minus mounting costs, and keeping the sharp look. seems not a bad choice.
