Just curious..... what's to stop a kid from opening the door in the rear? There are rear window locks (center red outlined console button) but no rear door lock disablers???
There are child safety locks on the rear doors - If you open the door there should be a small, red, round, slotted switch - you use your key to rotate it and activate the child safety locks.

Dealer charged me $37 to activate the signal flashes with lock/unlock key fob, the clown nose blink, and the speed sensitive locks. Before they programmed it, it would only take one pull to open the door as the lock was never engaged when driving. It's only been a few weeks, but I'm totally used to the quick double pump for exiting the car.

I'm used to it. But, I now have trained myself to hit the unlock button before getting out. That's cuz I often need to get in the trunk and I like using the button near the license plate instead of the key fob or the button near my feet.

I haven't decided whether I think it's a good idea to have the double pull or not. If you have kids, it can be a good thing. On my coupe, I think it's retarded. Our E320 will unlock all the doors just by pulling once. I think opening any door from the inside will unlock all the doors (not sure). That's convenient, but may not be best if you have kids. Guess each way is a compromise.

Kirby nailed it in his post. I had the same feature enabled on my VW Passat (the "lemon" I traded in for the BMW). With both cars (the VW and the BMW) when the doors automatically lock, it takes two pulls to open them. One unlocks the door, the second opens the door. Actually, the people who rode with me in my Passat (and now BMW) think the feature is slick, and feel an extra layer of security. They're "trained" to pull twice. If someone is riding in my car for the first time, I just hit the master lock/unlock switch when I park -- just so they're not fumbling with the door handle.

I like the feature, but that's personal preference talking.
