Hi,

I'm thinking of selling my 1999 323i on Ebay Motors. Has anyone sold a car there? Can you tell me whether it's worth the effort (what little there is)? Any hidden costs/issues I should know about? Any advice? Any anything?? I'm just so full of questions.
[confused]

Thanks in advance!

Didn't sell my car there by I have bought one... and it was one of the best buying experiences ever... Even though you may read on a lot of auctions that you will have money within a week.. the realistic measure is 3-4 weeks (since financing takes some time). eBaY MOTORS is the cheapest place to buy/sell cars.

Don't even bother with eBay Motors. Sure, the used car market is huge there, but the thing is, people use eBay Motors to buy cars well below what they are worth. You will end up selling your car for thousands less than it is worth. So if you do want to use eBay Motors, make sure you use a reserve. Also, check out AutoTrader:
http://www.autotrader.com/
That site is like $60 for a 1-month listing and it works very well.

Nope...and my buy-back value just jumped up $800 dollars ([?|] [?|] [?|] [?|] ) so I am pissed beyond belief. So now I have ot pay $4,000 to get out of my Jetta (since it's on a lease), but the Infiniti dealership is going to roll that up into the G35 Coupe lease, so it adds about $110 per month, but it's worth it because it makes it much easier.

Actually, I was thinking about putting a reserve at a grand or two above what I hope to get for the car and then contacting those who bid close, but didn't quite go that high if it doesn't hit the reserve. Do you know if you can actually find the information from those bidding?

The other thing is that I know I must just have not seen it, but I couldn't find anything about cost...

I had a friend who bought a Ferrari on eBay - unbelievable deal. He had an amazing experience, turned around and sold his Mercedes on it. I'm planning on one day getting a Porsche, and if I don't do European delivery, then I'm going eBay.

I am an eBay seller with 800+ feedbacks, here is my thought.

eBay Motor is a good place for buyers, not a good place for sellers.

Couldn't agree more. However, I will add something:

If you're talking a "popular car" (like one that's seen a lot on the road) - don't even think about selling it on eBay. If you're selling a specialty car (very rare) you may get an awesome price there. My bro just sold his Mazda RX-7 and got an awesome price on eBay. Locally, he would never sell it for a fraction of what he got - eBay is a good market for rare cars sellers.

I would have a hard time bidding on a car. I would have to drive it and have it inspected before I would bid.

I would use ebay to locate a car and buy it through a straight transaction with the seller, with all of the usual precautions.

Well, and that's what I'm hoping - to sell it locally, but find the buyer through Ebay. Although, if someone from the east coast wants to buy it and pay for transport - have at it!!!

Beemin, you are aware that eBay takes a certain percentage off of whatever you sell the car for, right? It is small, but it is around several hundreds of dollars, just in case you weren't aware of this.
Good luck on selling your car and let us know how you do. [thumb]

323i? you're gonna feel soooo much difference with your 330pp. wow, it's gonna blow you away[:D] [:D] [:D]

hope your reserve is meet not much higher than that... people tend not to bid more than 15k on a 323i. 328i brings a couple more grand. xenons get people's attention too.

not quite right.... ebay charges 40 bucks for listing and 40 bucks if you sell it. it's not a percentage. total cost if sold = $80.

You're right Yogi799, according to my calculations and invoices, if my car sells, I'm out under $100. If it doesn't - I'm out 42.50. Not bad, IMO.
