I am a fan of some older BMW designs, when the E30 went to the E36, it looked "foriegn", like BMW kept just enough of the old design cues, the quad headlamps, the bend in the c pilar, the kidney grille, etc. to have a resemblance. It seems with the E90, BMW did a similar job. I don't know if I like it or not, but "The Ultimate Driving Machine" is not just about driving anymore. I like a good looking car, and a well functioning interior. But I most appreciate a car that gives me chills from the way it turns and sounds and accelerates, knowing each inch of the road I just drove because my butt and my hands told me about it. More driving distractions are constantly bombarding the market, and it cost money. Not a slap at i-Drive, take a look at the ipod, similar idea but the ipod is user friendly. Who needs to watch TV in their car? Who needs dual climate control? You have at least two windows. Anything without three pedals is just not involving enough to keep me interested in DRIVING. All that being said, I dont think the styling is all that terrible, they kind of put a Z4 interior in there, too angular and booring for my taste, but to each, their own. The exterior is evolutionary, but not very attractive, at least at first. As for performance, I have not driven it, but the more computers you put between the tires and me, the less real it is, less of a challenge to drive well. BMW is out to sell a product, like any buisiness, and they are making what sells. Besides, if the E90 gets spanked, they will make changes with the next gen. But I still love the looks of the E46 M3, esp in Interlagos Blue.
