Maybe not water, but something. Maybe they mix the regular grade into the premium or something. I don't know gas so I dunno what they do. I do know that some gas stations of the same brand give you better performance than others. So, when you find one that's good, stay with that one or at least avoid the one you've found to not do so well.
Yeah, a lot of people say that some gas station owners mix their gas with some shit so they are selling less gas and more shit, but your car still takes it and runs on it.

Keep your car safe and running clean, and use quality gas. Even Maxim Magazine did a very thorough gas test and they found Exxon, Mobil, and bp (Amoco) to be the cleanest and best gas.

I'd shoot myself in the head before I take any of our cars to CITGO, Chevron, or any of those other shit stations. Sorry to be so crude, but many people I know feel the same way I do.

Is it different in each state? Chevron seems to be the most popular just by anectdotal evidence out here in California. No one buys Exxon or Mobil if you can find them. I know we don't have bp/Amoco. Shell seems unnaturally popular in the Bay Area, particularly SF.

From personal experience, Chevron works just fine. Shell too, but it tends to be more expensive. Arco isn't as good, but it's also cheaper (usually). I've only had bad experiences with those no name stations and Costco a long time ago.

My dad's friend is a fire inspector and goes around to various gas stations to check water content in the fuel. He told me that Gulf gas is has close to 45% water content in it. So there is a difference in which fuel you choose to fill up on. According to him, and at least in the Boston area, Exxon/Mobil and Shell (not suprising eh?) are the best to fill up on. These stations usually have as little as 5% water content in the fuel. And it is true. I was filling at Sunoco for the longest time, but then went 1 gas station down to a Mobil and it made all the difference in my gas milage.

bmwrocks, I know somebody who always used Hess gas up until his gas tank froze a couple of times. Not to start a flame war but you really don't care what gas you put in your tank, do you? I mean, come on, the cheaper the better? What if the cheaper gas costs less because they add lesser grade to a higher grade? Right now I don't have much money at all but I am still going to the say BP station and putting in the same 93 octane gas, I know I don't need it, but what if they mix in some 89 in there and make it 91? By the same principal they would make 91 something even less and then I am screwing the car over by not using the required octane of gas. I am sorry for all of this but you obviously have money (looking at the cars you have), why not use the higher octane gas at gas stations with better reputation? Just to be on the safe side of course. Then again, I am not you and I can't be telling you what to do or how to act. I am sorry, just had to release a little steam with everything that has been happening lately.
Sorry buddy, I should have elaborated more. Of course I care what gas I put in my car. The Hess station I use is very busy and I have never had any problems with it. My cars run perfect on it. Same with Sam's gas, the cars run excellent with it and there is always a line of people waiting to get gas there. If I ever once experienced any problems, I would discontinue the gas.

I am reasonably sure they are not mixing water or lower octane gas with the 93 at the Hess. If they were, they would be out of business. Lots of my friends and neighbors use the gas and no one has ever complained.

BTW, I am very meticulous with my cars. My friends and family think I am a psychopath the way I care for my cars. The last thing I am is cheap. An extra $1-$2 a tank wouldn't break me to buy different gas if it was warranted. It just is not in my case.

Sleep tight.
