I dunno, guys....0-60 is the most important time for me. All I care about is how fast I can get to 60mph. I care about fast acceleration, but anything after 60mph will probably just get you pulled over by the cops (unless you are on a Colorado highway with a 75mph speed limit or something). I like to look at 0-60 time, 60-0 time, and how fast the car does through the slalom. Also for the handling, I really like to say what the reviewers say about the car, because they often give you a good idea of what the handling and ride are like through description.
Akakubi, for the 911 TT and "X50 Package", is that the tuner package that costs like $20K and adds like 30hp and costs $17K? It is a rip-off if you ask me...just get a modified ECU for like $1,000 and you will get that gain. [:D]

Yep, it's a rip-off.....if you buy new. [rofl] You can pick-up a used TT for around 100K with the X-50 with less than 5k miles down in CA. [paranoid]

But I agree, I'd opt for the Renntech package for about $20K to get the 650hp among other bells and whistles if buying new.

Two things matter to me as far as car's performance:

1) TORQUE from the start - meaning the amount of power from the stop lights start. Here, my 328i is very satisfying, I used to have an Acura 3.5RL, which was nice too. My old Ford Taurus (3.8l engine) did a fine job there as well. However, I know some brands like Audi are known to have a very little power until high (3-4k) RPM. So torque is the word here.

2) POWER above 60mph. Here, again the 328i performs brilliantly as well. My Acura 3.5RL sucked above 60MPH - a 4 cylinder Honda Accord was equally fast. Also, most american cars fail to accelerate strongly above 60mph (due to their high displacement turned into high torque, but low power). Most 4-cylinder engines fail here tremendously.

Having said that, it becomes obvious that the 0-60 time is kind of useless... In the city, you would never need a 0-60 pass, and on the freeway 50-70 time is more important. 0-60 is only for drag racing[:D]

If you're careful and have a good vision, EVERYTHING above 60 would matter to you. I try to watch out for cops and constantly do 60-90 accelerations when crusing on highway. Power above 60 matters a lot to me.

I just got a new 330 convertible. I'm going from a 540ia. If you are choosing between the 3 and the 5 and don't need the extra room, I'd vote for the 3. The 5 is heavier and quieter but has more body roll. The 540 has a reciprocating ball instead of rack and pinion, the 528 has rack and pinion. All 3s are rack and pinion which is more precise for steering.

Anyway, I like the 330 and now I think I probably should have bought the 3 instead of the 5 before. The 330 seems to have quite a bit of torque and is very satisfying to drive. Still it isn't as quick as the 5 was. I've got the sports package. I'd suggest springing for that as well.

I drove the M3 convertible with the SMG. It was a little stiffly sprung for my taste.

If you do decide to get the 330 and if you find it doesn't have sufficient power, you can supercharge it later if you want. That option runs about $6k for the kit and about $1k for installation. It'll accelerate slightly more or less than an M3 depending on which supercharger kit you are comparing. Anyway the supercharger option is a way to put back the fast 0-60 if you decide you want it later.

Hope this helps.
