Hey,
I was looking to buy the "2004 BMW 3 Series 330Ci Coupe" and I was wondering how the 12 Harman/Kardon speakers were. How is the sound in the car and how are the 2 subwoofers(how much bass do they provide)? Compared to good speakers! If anyone could help, thanks!

The H/K is pretty good. When I was young I went through the "stereo system" phase, subs, amps...DIY install...NOW with my new 330...I much rather listen to the engine! The console looks great with the stock system...an aftermarket deck would probably give better funtionality and sound, but disrupts the continuity of the interior and looks ricey IMHO...the bass is sufficient...for me atleast. Like i said Im out of that "phase" of rattling loose everything in my car (including my head)...

Bottom line= Its good enough probably for a stereo guru, but you may want to integrate some better speakers/amps down the line. my 0.02

It depends on how much bass you want, for mediocre sound enthusiast it's fine. However like Salvo mentioned, the system itself will probably be not up to par with most gurus. I myself will give the system a 6 out of 10 since the woofers don't provide sufficient bass for my taste.

I totally agree with the others . I spent $1500 on a system to replace my HK and sometimes I wonder if it was worth the " disruption " in the interior . Stock looks better and aftermarket sounds better .

if you go aftermarket you'll need to replace the head unit because of the weak signal and no rca outputs from the stock one. You can get amps and speakers and a sub but it won't sound right with the stock head unit so start there first if you decide to go for it .

Yup. My friends who are into sound systems think the HK sucks big time. I really don't even mind teh sound quality on mp3s so it's fine to me. But, I don't think it's worth the extra price over my regular system either. My friend who bought it loves it, and likes the extra base. But, I'm like, eh, I've heard better bass. So, I think you'd need to fall into a middle category btw sound enthusiast and total apathy for it to be worth it.

Just got mine two days ago and have been quite impressed with the HK system. I'm reasonably fussy about sound quality (have a decent Nakamichi in the house) and I think you'd have to be quite a stereo nut to not be satisfied with the HK. Why don't you give it a listen before you make the decision - take some of your favourite cd's with you. Up here, the HK is included in the Premium Package...

...for a factory fitted sound system its pretty good. Had mine back for a bad parcel shelf rattle, which was fixed no q's asked. Definately would not mess with the dash looking for aftermarket ICE. Its plenty good enough IMO. Bass in my car is pretty good, even at half setting, much over that and it booms.

I say go for it.

I'm happy with my choice to get the HK. High's and Mid's are excellent. Bass is so so, very tight though. If you are looking for more bass, I would get the HK and then add a subwoofer.

I am not impressed at all with HK. As a matter of fact, I had many other cars prior to this where the system sounded better than the HK by simply changing the stock head unit and nothing else.

Does the HK in US not come with sub woofer? Perhaps thats the problem cos ours do.

i've got a little buzz noise too on certain songs coming from the front driver's side area somewhere. maybe i have the same problem with the shelf rattle. i guess i'll have the dealer check it out. otherwise, it's a decent system.

hmmm, recognize, i got the exact same thing you have with the HK.
I'll have my dealer check it out when I get back home in Holland!
Oh and BTW I think it's a pretty decent system, it depends on what kind of music you listen to though.

I have the same buzz. I had it when the car was weeks old and they replaced the passenger door speaker. The buzz has since returned. I plan on complaining about it next time I take it in. How embarassing to have the speaker buzzing when showing someone my car.......and how annoying just listening to music.

Here is something:

Today I opened the pass door and tapped on the speaker grill with my finger (kinda like you would point to something on a piece of paper) and surrounding area and could hear a distinct buzz when doing so!!

I then went to the driver door and tapped the same way and NO BUZZ!!!!

So....I will show this little experiment to the dealer next time in.

BTW my pass speaker buzzes almost always when music is on....no surprise......

For the money....I say no.

I had the HK in my 330, it was decent, when I went to order my M3 I reasoned it was not worth an extra $695, so I will do some amp/speaker upgrades on my own. For the typical "dont want to fuss with it" buyer, I think you will be happy, just dont expect heart pounding, bone chilling bass or real clear highs...I sayits a 6-7 out of 10.

In keeping with the special provision in Murphy's Law for car owners on warranty, plan on the ONE TIME the speaker works correctly is when you're at the dealer.

Funny how that ALWAYS HAPPENS!
