Sorry about your car. Did this happen on a public street? Was the other driver cited (issued a traffic citation)? As a general rule damage can be quickly estimated at $1,000.00 per damaged panel of a car.

Bad luck with yor car - darn those idiots!

As I read all the posts I couldn't believe what I saw - unbelievable high pricing on car fixin'. There's a small company in my home town which will fix a bumb in the back of my 325i and do allcover paintwork (the whole car) with a new color if I want at 1500-1600 euros (that's appx. the same in USD)...

Guess the pricing in US can be lifted so high because the companies have their hands full of those repairs...[:)]

actually if i go through his insurance theres no deductible, but the repairs will prob take much longer, im taking it to get an estimate on thursday so i hope all goes well, i am definately requesting a rental because ill need it as for the price i dont know i think 3k is prob right but the cop but 1k!!!
oh and even though it was the other guys fault no ticket was issued because the cop said it would be a waste of time. the other guy could take it to court and it would be dismissed since he wasnt there to witness the accident,
it happened in a university parking lot by the way. and one last thing, im prob wrong but i thought 1 euro=2 dollars guess im wrong...i hope everything goes well with my car, wish me luck.

The officer is right, he cannot issue a citation on private property for a traffic infraction. I assume he completed a report and included the facts about how the accident occurred?

correct, the county police couldnt be called to the scene so the university police took care of it, which is alright since theyre a branch of the state police here, so ... and ya he did the report but no ticket

I believe even if the claim is pending on him your insurance may pay temporally and then go after his insurance to pay them back. This has happened to me in the past. This is so you don't have to wait until their insurance decides if it's indeed their client’s fault. They will do their best to put off paying until proven it is their client’s fault. I know farmers are really good about paying and then going after faulted drivers insurance, but all insurance companies are different.

Then his insurance will pay you back your deductible. Better to get it fixed now instead of waiting (god knows how long) to see if they are going to fight the claim. Without a ticket being issued his insurance company may decide to fight the fact he was in the wrong, leaving you with a damaged automobile waiting to get repaired. Best to have done early and let the insurance companies go at it.

finally got an adjuster.... she said it wold be about $1,500.00 worth of damage... so my insurance is paying 1,000 and i pay my 500.00 deductible, all because that jerk wont answer the calls from his insurance so his insurance says oh well you have to wait, so now i have to go through my insurance and have them set him straight.... grrrr[mad] [mad] [spank] [chair]

OH, and PS, Hi Heather!!![welcome] [drinking]
