My bad... just checked it right now and it reads 17.9 MPG [thumb]

My 330CiC is auto. I usually drive it in sport. Ever saw a 330CiC beat M3? [fake]
something wrong in your car's calculation.........I am currently getting 21.7 mpg and I'm in sport or manual all the time.........must be Big Daddy's recommendation on the gas booster and fuel injector cleaner.......[rofl] [rofl] [rofl]

I will call the dealer tommorow and check it out.

It went from like 18.5 4-5 months ago to 17.9 and is frozen there for a while. I must be good. [:D]

Im surprised your MPG gauge on your signature is reading so high with such at such a high
RPM!!!!!!
Time to let the secret out - it's a doctored photo. I had a pic of the cluster with the engine off, and worked a little photoshop magic. As posted in another thread - I haven't topped out the 325 yet. My max speed has been in my '01 Lincoln LS at 147mph (govenor limited). If I WAS going 134mph, I'd be focusing on the road and not the focus on the camera...

Good at what?

[:p]

Not a very big drop to be concerned about, but increased gas consumption could be a symptom of a problem with the fuel/air mixture.

Or me driving like a real man and hitting 6000RPM atleast once a week. [:I]

mikev posted on the other thread "im runing at 26 Mpg and rising. however in the summer it goes down to 14!!!! Avg" ... he has a much bigger difference.

Hey Group....
One thing, for a six cylinder, the car seems to have higher revs that what I'm used to. FOr instance, I have a stick, and at 80 MPH, Im revving about 3500 RPM. This seems a bit high for a highway speed.

Hi Xi Guy,

I have a manual 2001 325XI and I have high revs just like you. I have gotten auto loaners and they are geared differently. They cruise around 2500RPM when running around 70MPH. Just FYI....

I have posted many times on this board on this issue and no one has ever confirmed this before. Don't worry. You ar not the only one. Just enjoy the Car with plenty of frequent oil changes every 7500 miles and filter changes in between.

Hey chsu,

the loaners you speak of were also BMW's? The gear ratios vary from car to car? Were teh loaners the same model as yours, a 325 XI?

At the track I get 8-10 mpg.

However, I get 22-25 in the NSX, and that is with hittin 7500 RPM or more many times each time I drive it.

I also got 25+ in the 325i, with similar driving style. I wind all my cars out to redline or close to redline frequently.

I know we like to think that low MPG equates to big automotive balls, but in all sincerity I think you are probably wasting that MPG cruising around town at lower rpms. You can see how the econometer changes when you reduce the pressure being placed on it by your foot just enough so that you are only giving the car enough gas as is absolutely necessary to maintain your current speed or accelerate. A lead foot in the day to day, and a lot of spirited trips from one stoplight to the next, may be the culprit. You don't have to give it full throttle all of the time, only when necessary. Full throttle at lower RPMs is kind of a waste, since the car often doesn't have enough power at low RPMs to give you the acceleration you seek by giving it full throttle and that gas is essentially wasted.

I would venture a guess that if you consciously change your driving style to avoid full throttle when it is NOT necessary, but otherwise continue driving like a 'real man' (albeit with a little sister in the car) you should see a decent improvement in MPG. YMMV. [wave]

Yes! The loaners were 01, 02 and 03 auto 325XIs
Auto gearing and manual gearing are very different. Yes, the 325xi auto and manual transmissions are both 5-speeds, but the auto has a much taller 5th gear (and possibly taller lower geares as well). A 325xi auto in 5th gear will be sitting at a lower rpm than a 325xi manual in 5th gear at whatever speed.

And don't forget the final drive ratio. Most automatic versions have a lower (numerically higher) final drive ratio. Say 3.46:1 instead of 3.15:1 for the manual (just an example).

Elussive,

Thanks.....I saw such a beautiful G35 this morning on teh way to work. You could tell it was a stick cause I could hear the motor whine. What a cool sound! 18 inch rims all around, xenons, LED's, fat dual exhausts, etc....VERY cool car. Just not a practical as a 325 xi, but I'm sure it would blow my doors off.

WARNING: THIS POST is [offtopic]

MrElussive - what made you choose the coupe over the 4 door? Did you purchase before the 4-dr manual was released? I was VERY interested in getting a G35, but alas the Japs don't design cars to fit a big fat 6'10" American. Thank god the Germans do...

If I were to get a 4-door sedan, I would have gotten a 330i, I think the 3-series Sedans are amazingly nice-looking 4-doors. The G35 Sedan is nice, but it doesn't really look that aggressive. I chose the G35 Coupe over the G35 Sedan because it looks much nicer (in my opinion), has 20 more horses, tighter suspension, Brembo brakes (with the manual transmission), and this all just appealed to me MUCH more than the G35 Sedan. Basically, I was looking for something very NICE and very SPORTY. The G35 Sedan didn't satisfy me in the sporty department.

Im enjoying the hell out of my 2004 325 xi (premium, sport). Its my first BMW so it's really
a treat for me. One thing, for a six cylinder, the car seems to have higher revs that what I'm used to. FOr instance, I have a stick, and at 80 MPH, Im revving about 3500 RPM. This seems a bit high for a highway speed.

Im sure this is due to teh fact that BMW's seems to be agressively geared. Thats how they get so much punch out of a car with not alot of horsepower. But I wanted to run it by you guys for verification. This type of RPM is what you guys are experiencing???

Thanks in advance..Happy Holidays to all.

What gear are you in? My car at 60mph holds a steady 2000rpm in 5th
