Unfreakinbelievable...... Today on my way to make a right turn this guy in a green jeep cherokee behind me bumps my bumper and when I turn around to look he has this facial expression like he just saw some ghost (***** [bash] ) and STUPID [?|]me pulls over to the right for him to stop. Instead the jackass takes off onto the highway and runs away!!!!! I got his plate number... I shouldn't have moved the car, I should have got right out and confronted him. But after seeing the expression on his face he probably would have ran me over or backed up and floored it outa there like he did anyway! BASTARD!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that. [:(] It’s probably better that you pulled over, people stopping right in the middle of traffic can cause subsequent accidents, at least you got his plate number. IMO you should go to the police and file a report, the insurance company will most likely ask for a report number. Hope all goes well.

DEFINITELY report him to the police!! First, his insurance company will try to help you out the most they can, they will then DROP him after sueing him (running is against ANY insurance policy for obvious reasons like this), and the POLICE will arrest him. Hit and run is a felony.

Get the bastard for all he's worth and then some. You work your ass off for your nice car, why should some idiot be let go like this after messing something up like this?

As an update I just cleaned that bumper the best I could. It turns out the stupid jeeps bumper hit mostly the black plastic strips (thank you BMW bumper engineers, now I know why it's that high up) and the part that touched the side left these two brown marks. I cleaned them off and the only damage to car is there is a small light light impression on the bumper skirt and I could swear the black strip isn't as tightly fastened as it used to be.

Problem is there are no witnesses and there is a light impression on the bumper skirt. I am almost positive the NYPD will tell me that with no witnesses and a slight impression which could have "happened when parking" is nothing and if they take a report I will sue my insurance. Something similar happened to a friend of mine in a road rage incident, they told her they would not go and find the guy but they would take a report and let her insurance pay. WTF!!! Anyone know where I can look up license plate numbers???

Amazingly not all things come out so easy. When the guy hit me a couple of months ago from behind and yes we pulled over and I got all his information, he did not get any information from me. The next day I filed a police report and at that time the policeman said I wish you luck, but you'll be back. I thought okay oh well, we'll see. I called his insurance company and they said they would call back. After many calls to the guy and to his insurance company to no avail, I reported it to my insurance company. The way it works, I have to pay first all of the deductible, then when the insurance company is out money they will call his insurance company. His insurance company denied the claim since his story was I backed into him. No witnesses or police at time of accident. Went back to the policeman and he said I told you you would be back, said he was sorry but that's how it works if you dont have a witness or police report at the time of the accident. As people say, life just isnt fair........... [bigcry]

Report him!

I had a similar situation many years ago - and the guy woulnd't get out of his car and actually did try to run me down. Turned out he was an illegal alien and the car was unregistered. Still - it took LAPD about 2-3 hurs to respond to the 911 call - after many screw ups - going to the wrong place etc - they only finally responded (even after I tried to flag 2 going by who shrugge me off) when a cop tried to give me a ticket for being double parked - I had left the car in the street where I had been hit. Then he saw I had phone din etc - but they gave up looking for the guy after a few weeks - I eventually had to track him down on my own - they collared him and said they were going to deprot him - i offered to be a witness - but they never called me back - so I have no idea what eventually happened. This whole ordeal took months - meanwhile - as I had only liability my insurance woulndt pay - "how do we know he was uninsured?" etc...but eventually they did pay up for the damages....still I ended up going 9 months in LA without a vehical! (got hit 2 other times in a 3 month period...long story)...but eventually I did collect on each one...the car was totalled - bought it back from salvage and drove it for another 5-6 years+ and 40K+ miles!

I used to be a claims rep for Geico. If you report the accident to the police (need to have a report number), and you have full liscense plate number (some States partial number is enough), your insurance company CAN NOT raise your premium for a hit and run. unless the other guy claims that you backed into him and produces 5 witnesses that say the same thing. However, as a calims adjuster we would be on high alert if someone had not reported an accident and all of a sudden was reporting that the other party was at fault after a hit an run reoprt was filled against him. The best thing you can do to protect yourself is to report the accidtn and report it soon. Then report it with your insurance company...if you dont want them to pay for anything you can report it for "RPO" Report puproses only.

Report it to the police. Report it to your insurance company. Hit and Run is NOT a felony, only when there is an injury or death and some other special cases, but minor damage and no physical injury is not a felony. And who is going to "sue your insurance", the cops?

Find someone who can run his plate, get his address and go give him the beating of his life!
It won't fix your car, but I promise you will feel 1000 times better about it.
When he is a crying bloody mess, screaming "please stop, splease stop!" Give him a boot to the teeth, pee on him, and leave him for dead in front of his family!

Just make sure you don't drive your car to his house!
That will teach him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

::Off topic::
Its good to have a camera handy in the car, in case something like that happened, well in case any accidents happen. Whether its a camera phone, a diposable, or a digital.

I'm hoping you're kidding. Why should he go to jail for it when the other guy f'ed up?

Report it. You only take an insurance hit if your insurance pais and can't get the offender. Even then, you may be okay if the police report is filed.

I meant I'd have to sue my insurance to get something.... But nevermind that. The thing is I cleaned off the marks theres no damage to the bumper besides a light impression on the plastic skirt. With no witness and "tricky" insurance policies
I'd rather not get into a "prove I hit you" incident...

What am I going to tell my insurance anyway? Keep on file that someone rear ended my bumper and then quickly drove away.... Perfect scenario for them to raise my premium and put me under some "likely to be hit" list. I'll know better next time... I should have never pulled over; simply followed him and threw a role of quarters one by one at his car, I'd bet next time he'll drive more attentively...
