After my sub-woofer box was replaced, mine is great......it is true that the kind of music makes it sound better or not very good.......I'm amazed at the individual sounds from the left, then from the right, then from the back......from Kid Rock to Glen Campbell, I really enjoy it.....and I love the volume speed increase thing especially with the top down.......hey that makes two things that work perfectly.......

You guys are comical.

You pay high dollar for a stereo with a name on it and get all hot and bothered when you get hit with the reality of it being junk. Instead of defending the stock HK garbage, I challenge you nay sayers to go to several car dealerships other than BMW and just listen to the stereo's. Then come back and say what you will.

I have been an audiophile for many years and have had experience in all sorts of home and auto applications. I have been through many different new cars and I think the only worse stock system was a 92 Tercell, which was my wifes first new car.

Pure comedy...........
i have to agree with unit74 on this. ANY stock system in ANY car is a major step down in quality compared to some of the aftermarket speakers available. if you don't believe me just go to a car stereo shop and listen to a set of mb quart q series or focals. i can't comment on a saturn being better than bmw's hk system but i surely wouldn't spend the $$$ on upgrading to a hk sytem. i think spending that money on an aftermarket system is much more prudent.

Don't forget that the room or space the system has (a large opera hall compared to a 330 coupe......) makes a HUGE difference in the way one can enjoy music. So please don't try to compare any system in a car shop with a different system in a car!!!

Hey Unit74 you need to go back to boot camp and get clobbered by the drill sargeant from Full Metal Jacket. You remind me of Private Pyle.

You seem to remind me of Pvt Brown. A big mouth and nothing intelligent to say.

It's obvious your shooting from the hip because in the Marine Corps, there are Drill Instructors, not Drill Sergeants. And his name was Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. He was a Senior Drill Instructor, not a Drill Sergeant. If your going to quote movie's, please know what your talking about first.

You really should have known. [rolleyes]

when did they start making the hk system stock? my girlfriend has a 2002 325ci and the dealer said she would have to shell out some extra $$$ to upgrade to the hk system.

For the Ci it must have been 2003. The 325Ci comes with a stock 10 speaker HK with less features. There is an option to upgrade to the 12 speaker HK (same as stock 330Ci HK) with more features for the 325Ci.

For the 2003+ 330Ci the 12 speaker HK is stock.

I don't know about all the other 3-series models.

I heard a stock system in a 2.5L z4. And it was louder and sounded better them my hk system. I have also blown my left speaker. (1 month into the car) Yes, I like loud music, but I don't blair it to a point were my speakers want to fart. I just need to through in some upgrades. It seems like they put more stock speakers in and some subs, then put an HK name on it.
