How do you warm up your car?

if its really cold, i let it idle for 2-3 minutes, it takes the Rover a while to get warmed up, and if its not the engine make a Whining noise when ur moving, it stop whining when its 1/3 of the way to its normal temp. Does this kind of whining happen in bimmers too if their not warm?

So far i havent heard any such noises from my 323. I usually let the car idle in P long enough to scrape frost from my windshield. Then i drive cautiously until the engine has had plenty of time to warm itself.

I give it a few minutes, since I heard of the info to NOT warm-up very long I just limit it to say 3 minutes.
