Dealerships make money on parts as well as on Installation. Most BMW dealerships charge at least $90 an hour for labor and time charges are fixed for each installation activity. The fixed charges are typically much higher than the time taken to do the work, so don't be upset if you are charged for 8 hours of labor when the mechanic completed the job in 5 hours.
I wanna go to the BMW dealership that charges $90/hr. Last I heard about the one closest to me, $120/hr.

Engine will be fine, dad drove his old 323i for over 200k miles, most were freeway miles, but the car (and this a testament to how much my dad drove it and cared for it) the interior looked that it only had been driven like 10-15k miles, very well conditioned. BMW can really last.

My 1989 325is has 287K miles on her, and my 1984 318i reads 254K but the odometer works erratically so I'm guessing she probably passed 300K by now. Repairs ARE expensive, but they stayed fixed (so far) so I figure this is still cheaper than having a car payment. They are both beautiful and dependable. I would not hestitate to buy another high mileage car if it's been well cared for. Maintenence is very important. I do my own filters, oil changes, radiator flushes, etc. I even did my rear shocks myself. Very easy ... even for a girl (I'm female). But the front struts looked dangerous to attempt so I left that for a real mechanic. I expect to still be bragging about "my little girls" for many hundreds of miles into the future.
HOWEVER, I also have a 1980 320i (of course with high mileage but I can't remember what) that is a big financial headache. She had a bad life before I met her, which is probably why I've always had problems with her. So I want to say again that good maintenence is important for longevity. The concept works on people, too.

Before purchasing this particular BMW, have you gone to any BMW dealerships to see if there is a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) with lower miles for around the same amount of money? If the BMW dealership has a car maybe you can look at the prior maintenance or repairs that have been performed on the car as well. At least you could start out having more information and a warranty and possibly maintenance schedule.
