Hi All,
It's been a long while since I've posted. Anyway, I just took my car in for my 2yr inspection and my service rep told me there was a recall on an ignition coil for my car. I had complained before about sluggish acceleration but was told nothing was wrong. I had it replaced and now that sluggishness I was complaining about is gone. Not sure what models are affected by the recall but I have a 2004 330i.

Merry Christmas! [driving2]

I received the official recall notice last week for my 2004 330cic. They are to replace all 6 coils. The funny part how they explain the recall. They say that it is an EMISSIONS RELATED voluntary recall - the failure of a coil will cause the car to emit pollution in excess of standards, which is a federal violation. All this is true, but it kinda side steps mentioning any performance issues.

If the coil completely fails, you'll notice a performance drop, rough idle, and it will throw a code. But apparently with this problem the coil can get weak or partially fail, so the symptom might not be as noticeable.

Maybe this explains why it feels like I am driving into a 30 mph headwind!

I have noticed a performance drop. I also noticed a 3 mpg GAIN in fuel efficiency. Of course, I WANT MY POWER BACK!

That explains it, mine is March 04 so I take it I'm not affected by the 03 coil issue, although I'm sure my 03 325i was (rough starts, sluggish acceleration, poor gas mileage, the works...) Thankfully my 3.0 runs like a dream. Did you notice any problems or was the notice in the mail the first time you even thought of it?

I just called my dealer to confirm that they had taken care the recall since my car had 2 incidents with the coils. It is to my surprise that they didn't take care of them! [bash]

It just doesn't make sense. Both coil incident required them to replace the coil. In fact, I was told by the service advisor on the 2nd incident that they had replaced all 6 coils. Am I missing something? [scratch]

Why wouldn't they take care of the coil recall then if they are taking the coils apart anyway? [?|]

I brought my '04 325xi (built in April 04) in for 15k scheduled maintenance and also had the coils replaced as part of the recall. The difference in acceleration is very noticeable - feels like a different car.

my car is 2004 X3. I have my recall on the ignition coil last 2 months ago. The TECH said that there going to change the ever problematic BREMI to BOSCH. Well, my car runs smooth after the changed but, i have notice sudden drop in mpg from 18.5 to 16.5. hmmm.... i don't know may be this thing has its own break-in period.

Please share w/ us your own insights (mpg) after the recall.
