Ive been posting on the mb forums and they seem to say all bad things about the bmw.

The rivalry continues

i dont need a racing car that corners well, ive just had one,i just want a car that can be punchy when i need and also look classy when i turn up to biz meetings

It's kinda funny how we can love a certain car and be blind to the fact that other cars can be great to drive.

Really, Mercedes, BMW and Audis are are all wonderfully cars in their own way and most people would love to have one. All three have problems, so get what you like and enjoy.

Well said.

I thinks it’s funny how we all get into these discussions on times and handling better in the twisties and so on. My car has been to 135 once and will probably never hit this again. I bet I drive and under 50% of capabilities almost always.

As I’ve gotten older the more I realize they are just cars. Yes they are fun, but way overpriced and a very poor investment.

You sound like my Dad when I was complaining about my car getting keyed.

That's what I'm arguing. VW, Audi, Porsche are great to drive. But I grew up with Mercedes vehicles and the drive is very serious and downright boring. You don't get that BMW "rush".

thats what i mean it just put the whole thing in perspective.......

My friend owns 04 M and he pays like 120 a week standard....

Dont get me wrong i can see the point but reality is kicking in....

I want more expensive holidays and nice places to eat.

AND I CANT JUSTIFY PAYING A 100 A WEEK TO OVERPRICED PETROL STATIONS......

Plus its an excuse for a change.....

This is what i reckon. The Merc is a very good car, there is no doubt about it. And the Audi's have arguably the best build quality of the three big Germans.

BUT. The BMW really is set apart in the driving experience. The way a BMW responds to your inputs is exponentially more organic and natural. Steering feel, braking feel, responsiveness, stability, adjustability - they all take a higher level in the BMW. But if you're not too fussed about dynamics or engine delivery then you will undoubtedly love the Merc. Let us know how you get on with it anyway

Exactly. When I drive my BMW, I feel like I'm in total control. But when I drive my dad's Mercedes-Benz, it's more like the car does the driving and I sit in there almost like a passenger.

The price for MBs is sky high. In the past that price could be justified because of their outstanding reliability and quality. These cars would last forever. That's not the case any longer. In the last five years MB's quality has plumeted. Fortunately for MB, public perception has not caught up to this reality, and MB still charges a hefty premium for their cars.

The only German car that is somewhat reasonably priced is the Audi. BMW, MB, and Porsche prices are too high IMO. As a matter of fact many others must share my view since I see ads in the paper for discounted '05 BMWs. A local BMW dealer is offering discounts of a little over $2K on 325s and a little under $3K on well equipped '05 330s. In the past it was hard to get a BMW at the beginning of the model year for under MSRP. Even new M3s are being discounted in my area. Porsche has been offering huge discounts on some of their models. The 40TH anniversary 911 was discounted by $15K in the summer.

Even with discounts , the German cars aren't price competitive with the Japanese offerings. For example BMW doesn't have anything that can compete with the 300 HP AWD Acura RL unless you move up to the $60K 545.
