Increased gas mileage

This was the first time I paid $30 for a tank of gas so I tried something different. I normally upshift around 3000-3500 RPMs. Lately, I've been upshifting around 2500 RPM. I noticed that the gas mileage increased from 26.5 MPG to 29 MPG, per on-board computer. This was only one tank full; I'm going to try it again to see if it was an anomaly. Anyone else try this and noticed any difference?

wow, you're getting great gas mileage. I'll get like 25mpg leaving it in drive which upshifts around 2700 but in Sport, it upshifts at like 3400 and I get like 20mpg.

I'm with you MrElussive. 17-18 here also but I don't pay attention to gas mileage either. However, I just filled my tank up with premium and it cost me only $22 here in Texas. We are probably a bit cheaper than a lot of the other states.

Felicia, what are your gas prices like in Texas? We are at $1.96/gallon of premium here at my local bp/Amoco station in NJ (which is full service, as required by NJ). Not too bad, I don't think...I believe New York is at like $2.20-$2.30/gallon (not sure, though) so a ton of New Yorkers like to stop at a NJ gas station while they're in NJ, right before they make that trip across the GW Bridge.

over 2 tankfulls I'm averaging about 19-21 mpg. That's mainly city street driving, in sport auto drive mode, with the new car leadfoot too. Premium is costing about $2.20 right now, and that's before any anticipated OPEC production changes.

Here in San Francisco, things are dire (with regard to gas prices). I've filled up my car three times since I took delivery and each time I've paid over $35. Premium self-serve gas here has reached $2.40 per gallon, and is said to go up to about 2.80 - $3.00 by Summer. I'm averaging about 21 - 22 mpg according to the onboard computer. I do a lot of highway driving (45 miles each way to work) but have a lead foot ;-) If I were to slow down a bit I'm sure I could stretch my mpg. But where's the fun in that?

We should organize a GAS STRIKE on specified days! Or boycott a particular company for a month, e.g. no Amoco gas for April, no Sunoco for May.

HaH! Right on, dpnguyen. I'm right there with ya. I really don't understand how these SUV owners do it. Most use the things as their primary mode of day-to-day transportation. There was an Excursion at the Shell station I frequent in the City, and I kid you not, the guy put $66 worth of gas in his tank. I didn't ask questions but wondered to myself WHY in God's name someone would want to drive such a large gas guzzler -- he was alone too. Geez.

Good god! Where are you buying your gas? Like which station? Was it a Shell or something? For some reason, I noticed that Shell is a LOT more expensive than the other brands in the Bay Area for some weird reason. I was in SF only a few weeks ago and the Chevron on 19th Ave. and Pacheco (or Ortega... somewhere around there) was cheaper than it was when I got back to SoCal a couple of days later. It's only around $2.25 around here for Chevron Premium.

With the driving that I do, I'd have to fill up every 4 days or so. Providing i just go from work to home, I won't have to fill up for at least a week and a half. Ultra94 at Sunoco is now like 1.87. At least here in Jersey, by Rt 4.

Actually, I just paid $1.76 for premium the other day. So it's pretty cheap compared to a lot of the other states.

And you just made me miss NJ with your GW reference! [bigcry]

felicia, be careful which store you're buying "premium" from. I just moved to nashville from dallas and i know the "discount stores" that are there.
BP/Amoco and Shell around here are abou $1.92/gallon. We've always been spoiled (as Americans) for our gas prices. In Europe it's about 1.15/liter or about $5/gallon.

No worries. It was a Mobil by my house. I know all about those discount places.

You nailed it, man. I do buy Shell. Today I filled up again and it was $2.53 per gallon. I usually fill up at one of two stations -- 16th & Guerrero or Market & Sanchez.

My latest avg mpg was 20.8 mpg. I upshift (blipping the throttle) which kills gas mileage but i dont care, when people are riding with me and i blip it and make it so smooth you cant tell anything changed except the engine RPM, it's cool [:)]

I've been watching my mpg on highway trips to Atlanta and back. I've been averaging 32 mpg on cruise control at 69 mph over about 60 miles on my 2.8 litre engine drinking Chevron 93 octane. I'm running these new Eagle ES tires my cousin sold me (not the best cornering or rain tires...but great long distance tires). I keep them a couple pounds over the recommended pressure. But I've noticed if I hit any traffic and have to slow down and speed up again, the reading takes a nose dive. My second mpg reading hasn't been reset in ages. It's on about 19 mpg.

Does anyone know how many miles it will store? There must be an outer limit. I suppose I could not reset either of them for a while and see when the two equal each other.
