your best bet is to go to an auto sterio alarm shop. I have a 325e and I am going to install powerlocks in mine, I am a stereo alarm tech and I will be using a spall 4 door kit for mine. A shop may charge 150 to 200 bones.

zoomn,

Your car doesn't have central locking? When you lock the driver's door with the key, it doesn't lock all the doors? I haven't heard of a US e30 that didn't have central power locks, but I could easily be wrong.

nope, everything is manual.. like on the drivers side, you cant push the lock down.. so you dont forget your keys ;) so you have to use the key to lock it.. as for the passenger side, you can push it down.. or use the key to lock it.. but to the point, theres no power in the locks.. so its still possible to have it done like power locks right?

It is surprising that you do not have central locking. Even my 1985 318i had it as standard equipment. I installed a keyless entry system on my 1989 325i w/central locking and it was easy. Could it be that you have central locking but the fuse or something is burned out? On my 89 325i fuse #27 is a 30 amp fuse that controls the central locking.

yep, i agree with rjp325. since u have only a two door, if only one door stops working, it will be like u dont have power locks.in my moms '95 540, the drivers back seats lock stopped working, u must push it down every time u get out, and the keyless entry dont lock it either. so maybe that happened to ur passenger door ???

when u say cant push it down, do u mean, u push it down and it pops back up, or that it wont go down ? bc if thers a motor to pop it back up like in my car and my moms and all the otehr cars with power locks, then it should be power locks, right ????

my 2 door 84 318i has power locks. Only thing is that i can't push down my driver side door lock to lock all the doors when the door is open. (its stiff) i can push down my passenger side door lock when the door is open, but then it doesn't lock all the door, just that one. When i am inside my car i can push down the drivers side door and all the doors and trunk and fuel locks, lock. The passenger will do it too, but only when the doors are closed and you are inside the car. I can also lock all my doors and unlock them from the trunk. thats so sweet. How can i tell if i ahve the double locking system tho? i only have one key and its not original.

Inorder for me to lock the doors, i need to use my key. I think its jsut worn out mechanisms, that is my culprit. Not really an inconvenience for me. But i Think that there is something wrong with your car. you SHOULD have a central locking system. i ahve NEVER heard of an e30 without it!

heres a link for you to read to troubleshoot your problems.

Good luck!!!

Rukus, get in the car, open your window, put your hand outside the car and close all the doors with the key, if I'm right, you shouldn't be able to open any doors from inside or out at this point, at least that's what the double locking feature is. I don't know if the car double locks the doors with the window rolled down or maybe it knows youre in the seat. I'll try to remember to try it tomorrow and see what it does.

Rukus,

The system is designed so that you have to use your key to lock the doors. You can't push the lock on the driver's door down with the door open because that's the way it was designed. The locking mechanism is set up that way to prevent you from locking your keys in the car. The power locks only work when the driver's door is closed.

As far as the double locking - if you have central locking, you have the double locking system as well. However, you need a BMW key in order to use it - the cut is a little different.

i read that my car is too old for the double locking feature. Also when i try to turn the key over to the 90° position, it won't go. I say because of the age of my car, its safe to say i do not have the double locking feature.
When i sit in my car, i can push down the locks and all the doors lock.
Thats what happens. Whether this is right or wrong, it works that way.

well.. im gonna bring my car to an alarm place and have them check to see if i already have power locks or not.. they said it'll cost 200 (100 per door) to have the power locks installed.. and the alarm is free.. what do you think?.. rip off or no?
