Today I tried turning the key to the 90 degree position and it didn't go. It felt like it's the wrong key. Have no idea what's going on. When I got the car, they only gave me one key but it does everything, except for the double locking thing. My driver side door lock is really hard to turn when compared to the passanger side and sometimes I have to turn it clockwise a little in order for it to go counter clockwise when I first open the door. Anyone has any clues?

Do you have an original BMW key, or a copy cut on a non-BMW key blank? The double locking feature requires a non-valet original BMW master key in order to work.

To all who dan't turn the driver's door lock to the double-lock position - Can you turn your key to the double lock position on the trunk?

Just curious.

Regarding keys, you can go to a dealer and show them your registration and providing the locks haven't been changed, they can laser cut you a new key from the original specs for your key. This should restore the ability to double lock if that's a feature on your car.

I think I have the original key but I'm not 100% sure. The key does have that black plastic top that has a BMW roundel on it. If I remember correctly, when using the trunk lock, all of it's positions are about 90 degrees but I'm not clear on that. Also when all the doors are locked except for the driver's door and I lock it with the key, I hear some motor running for a small amount of time. THere is also this problem with central locks, sometimes when I open the driver's door, only that door opens, and not the rest, and when it does so, I don't hear any motor running. Maybe I do have a valet key or something. Thanks for all the info.

i tihnk my car is too old for the double locking feature.

its an 84 318i mfg'd before movember of 1983.
my trunk doesn;t have a double lock feature and my drivers side door doesn't turn all the way.

BUT... heres something that confuses me. On my drivers side door, there is a contact INSIDE the door that when i lift my door handle, its supposed to touch this contacts together and do something. This contact is broke tho.. so i am not sure what it does. all i know is that my door does what i need to; open close, lock unlock.
