You do have a limited slip differential, unless it was swapped with a non-LSD sometime in the car's life.

All the e30 "is" models had a LSD. I think rukus is right -- my output seals are leaky and i'm pretty sure that's what is causing it.

Cheap repair, but a royal pain in the ass.

atleast replacing my diff in my car was a major upgrade :p so it wasn't that bad.

I used to have the 3.65:1 NON LSD differential.


Also check out your CV Joints in your axles. look for ripped boots, and if they are really loose when you wiggle them.

But, i'd say its your output seal bearings on your differential . They don't last forever, and tend to only make noise when you turn one direction. Its also a sound often mistook for a rear axle problem, and could very well be a FRONT wheel bearing. Sound resonates in a funny way sometimes.

okay, if you don't have access to a hoist, do this and be VERY careful. jack up the rear of the car like i mentioned earlier, and (be careful!!!) start the car with the wheels in the air , let it idle in gear. get a friend. try slowing down each tire with your friend (you each on a tire (wear gloves) and see if you can hear any strange sounds from the differential.

Seems that should work.

there were no strange sounds comming from the diff... this is starting to piss me off btw is it if you spin one wheel by hand and the other one doesnt spin you have an lsd?

if you have a manuel transmission you won't have to have it in gear for the wheels to turn, if you don't want to put it in gear the wheels will spin slowly in nuetral.

anyway i doubt its diff oil but its easy to check if you have a big enough alen wrench, or you can use a bolt head and lock tights if you don't want to go out and buy one.

you should have said some thing and you probly need more oil like it says in the other post
i still cant belive how dumb i am i was all worried
