Low fuel light

I do not have a trip computer but mine would come on below the R on the fuel gauge.
Remember to be careful the fuel is also cooling the fuel pump. You do not want to burn out the pump by overheating it.

My fuel light comes on when I'm on the last 50 miles of my tank. My OBC also sets off that *dong* when it reaches 50 miles left. It's annoying, but it's only happened once. I'm one of those refill-at-half-full type people.

The light doesn't come on when I start the car and it comes on when it is almost at the bottom of the gauge. If you're not in the bottom half of the red you're probably not low enough yet.

Also, my OBC never dongs when I get low on gas. I could freak out here and ask if something is wrong with my car but I just don't get that excited.

Well, the light came on two days ago. It didn't actually come on until the needle was well below the R line. So, it does work.

Mine always comes on when the needle gets into the red area just above R. I've driven about 20 miles max with it on before filling up. It also flickers for a little bit before staying steadily on, suggesting it's fairly sensitive. Maybe there's an issue with the sending unit on the cars without working lights?
