My new '04 330CI came with Michelin Pilot Sports. Has anybody run these tires and are they o.k. in the rain? They seem great on dry pavement.

I'm not worried about snow, as they shouldn't see any of that. It will be snug in the garage on those days[confused]

I have them on my car....I absolutely love them. They are solid in the rain, but personally in my car, I have to be careful with them while accelerating...I just can't accelerate too hard. Really stiff sidewall and great handling performance...you are going to love them. As for wear and tear, I drive my car pretty hard most of the time and they have been lasting pretty well.

I have them on my car and like the way they stick on curves. The 330s at the BMW Driving School were running the Pilot Sports and they were quite impressive, especially on the skid pad. FWIW, the senior instructor has them on his ZO6 Vette.

Thanks for your replies. I was a little bit worried only because my Brother in Law has a 530 with Conti's on it. He said the Conti's were "better" tires, but from what I gather he might be FOS[???1] He also lives where it never rains (Carlsbad).

I have the OEM Continentals and they are not very impressive. I am heading to get winter tires reinstalled next week and the Conti's are going to the garbage. Hopefully to be replaced by Bridgestone S03 Potenzas.

I've only put about 350KM's on mine so they're probably not broken in yet, but I think they are very good handling tires.

I should also mention that I very much liked the Continentals on my old car.

outpost, I think he is pulling that out of his ass. The Pilot Sport's are a great summer tire and although they are expensive, I would buy them again and again....you get what you pay for. [:)]

I have a little over 9,000 miles on my Pilot Sports and they are still going strong. They handle very well in the rain and around turns. I will definetly buy them again.

What wheels does BMW put the Michelins with? I have the 68Ms that came with Contis. Mscoins has the 18s that came with Pilots. Are they consistent with this or is it a matter of what they have at the factory at the time?

When I ordered the car I was wondering what tires it would have while I was waiting for it to arrive. There is no mention of tire make in the literature when you build your car.

Did I miss something?

only positive comments from my side as well. i have them for years now, not the same but the pilot sports. love them too and they are really good in rain.

as far as the contis are concerned, they know how to make a decent tire, too. it depends on what tire he has and what his preferences are to evaluate a tire. more on the smoothness side or more on the stiff and sporty side? i wouldn't say he is full of it. maybe he just sees it different or relies on some test a magazine has done.

When I ordered my car in mid-May, I asked the sales person if I could specify Michelin and was told that I couldn't ask for a specific manufacturer, because BMW installs the tires that are on hand at the time of the vehicle's production. FWIW, the other day I stopped by my local dealer and noticed a beautiful black M3 in the showroom with Continentals on it.

my opinion, value it as you please:

michelin is so so, i think to be over priced, but i run potenza S-03's which are only a little cheaper. i am getting new tires in the spring, and am on the line between michelin's, pirelli's, and bridgestones. up until now i would've been 100% bridgestone, but recently in F1 the tire match has kind of evened out, though ferrari still won with their specially developed bridgestones. i think they both have a tread wear of about 220, which is reallllll low, so tire life isn't a big concern. bridgestone and michelin are both very good tires, continental's are for 525iA's.

my $0.02

I didn't even know Dunlop was an in the mix.

Yes you may be the only one I have heard of.

I like my Conti Sports BTW. They feel fine, very well matched to the car.

Tweet how do you like the Pilots on your 68Ms?

I love them. They handle great around turns and in the rain. Tread wear hasn't been too bad either, considering I do drive pretty hard at times. [:D] I am in the market for some snow tires right now, but come next year, i will definetly buy the pilot sports again.
