WHAT! How many miles do you have on your car Tweet? The Pilot Sport's are expensive, but you get your money's worth...they are known for being a great-performing tire with excellent tread life. I drive ultra-hard every day and my tread life is still great after almost 3,000 miles. I have a feeling they will easily last for 30,000+ miles.

I have the Pilot Sport on mine and tomorrow I may get to try them in the rain! I have not driven my car in the rain yet because rain seems like only a semi-annual event here. I have 255/35 ZR18 on the back and I hope they last a while at something like 400.00 each, but I can see how they can go quick, I have this favorite off ramp that I use everday and get a little rear slide, I am sure this is not too good for the tires. [driving] [burnout] [:D]

Mr E - I'm nearing 10,000 miles and I have read a lot about these tires that once they hit 15,000 road noise increases and come 20,000 the tread is pretty much shot (especially on the back tires). I just figured that some time next summer I will have to replace the back (if not all 4) tires because I have already noticed a significant decrease in the rears tread and an increase in road noise at higher speeds. Hmmm maybe im wrong - i hope so for my wallets sake [rolleyes]

Oh man, that sucks. I wouldn't mind the road noise because the G35C produces an assload of road noise already (the road noise is surprisingly loud on this car), but it sucks that my tires won't last that long. [mad]
Oh well, I think I will go with Potenza S-03's for my next tire purchase.

Yup. Treads will porb be shot by next summer [:(]
Tweet your signature says you have a 2004. How many miles are you expecting when you plan to replace your tires?

Our high perf tires will last 20K miles or so with average driving. That means no peeling out. So if you drive 20K + miles in a year then what you say is certainly accurate.

Also it sounds like you use snows, so it will be even longer before you wear them out I think.

With our electronic brake proportioning and DSC, tire life is further extended. I am hoping to get 25K out of my Conti Sports, which should be early 2005 when I hit 25K.

Maybe I am the exception, but I only put 11K-13K miles a year on my car.

Am I way off on this?

did you ever listen to conti's sport contact? those are loud. my inlaws have them on their e-class and sandras uncle had them on his passat. at 150+ kph you could barely hear the music anymore.

Or anyone that knows about speed rating.
Check this website for an explanation of speed ratings on todays tires.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/general/speed.htm

Basically, Z rating is given for speed rating of 149+ mph. Now tires come with an additional rating telling the upper limit over 149. And also the load rating. Just look on your sidewall and you will see the load and max speed rating (i.e. 86W)

at 150+ kph ....
Wadula, we live in the USA, we don't use kph, in fact we wish it didn't clutter our speedo.[:D]

Or do you have your temp set in degrees C and your odometer set to kilometers and your fuel consumption in liters/kilometer?

I can hardly comprehend that last one (liters/kilometer). Maybe 5 generations from now Americans will be using that one.

bmwrocks: I do have an '04 and I am planning on replacing my tires when I near 20,000 miles because I do a lot of driving, between 18,000 - 20,000 miles a year. I am planning on putting snow tires on my car, but here in Jersey we really don't get that much snow. I am hoping to keep my Pilot sports on until the last possible moment because I'd rather drive on dry pavement with my PS's than with snow tires. I got my car May 1st, and I figured that I will probably only have the snow tires on 2-3 months max (hopefully) so after all of my calculations I should be hitting 20K on my pilot sports sometime around late July/early August (with 3 months of driving on snow tires figured in [:)] ) Thats why i figured that I will be seeing a tire purchase next summer. Does that help?

Yes Tweet, thanks. Hopefully I didn't sound too obnoxious.

And Wadula, we also don't use words like "imperials". And you are referring to us as "you guys". Where are you from?[:)]

I hope you know I am just kidding you about all the kilometers/imperial/celsius stuff. [poke]

what is sold as sports edition in the US, carrys names in europe. due to the color combination i have, the car is a Avus Edition. It is nothing that ultra special, just a series they did once. Avus btw, is a very old racing course in berlin. in the middle of the city they were racing officialy.

i would love to hear what you consider my accent to be like.....hihihi.....i hope it's not too rough [rofl]
