All the best...

[:0] Damn dude! I'm pissed with ya. Sorry to see and hear the bad-luck. You got ZHP too, just like my car. I definitely feel for you. I look at my rearview just as much as my windshield especially at stops in hopes of preventing that. So about Roadside Assistance, what is it good for? A tow, someone to talk to, changing our run-flat tires??? That definitely worries me. Keep us posted on the outcome and good luck. Happy motoring,,, again--soon!

If the side arch sheet metal is warped, it's no big deal they can replace that one piece on both sides if necessary.
Actually, a warped rear quarter panel IS a big deal. That is NOT an easily replaceable part. The quarter panels are a structural part of the car - they are welded in with the roof, package tray, trunk, and door surround pieces. They are not simple bolt-on parts like front fenders are.

Replacing rear quarters requires someone who knows what they are doing in order to get things lined up right and make it look good as new. Definitely let the local BMW dealer handle it.

Exactly, it's no big deal and thats why I advised him to get a BMW collision tech to handle it. Nobody said it was simple, but to a trained professional it is routine work. Bodywork on the E46 is not as difficult as you would expect.

sorry to hear. not too many zhps out on the road, and it really sucks to see one like that.

hopefully there's no damage to the drive train. i wonder if you can drive it back to seattle to get the work done over there.. it would suck to have to leave your car behind in another country, then come back for it later.. if the car has to be repaired in VC, then get it done by the local dealership, or their approved factory. (not every dealership does their own bodyshop work, do they?)

i doubt it'll be totalled, and whilest the car may or may not be back to 100%, at least it was a lease. (if they total, they'll just pay the rest of your lease.) its called gap insurance, and most if not all leases carry it.

Hey guys,
an update on my 330Ci-
1) The body shop selected by ICBC (The Government run "Insurance Corporation of British Columbia") had already selected a body shop used by AutoWest BMW of Richmond BC. Two managers(!) from the dealership (Service and Ops) were nice enough to reply to my email and told me that I could trust the body shop 100% as they send their cars there. They also told me I could bring the car to the dealer after pick up to have it inspected. Nice Canuks, eh?! I was a bit surprised to hear how their insurance works. Basically you don't need to call around for quotes because you are required to use ICBC to get your basic insurance. Their slogan should be "If you don't like the quote you get from us, you can shove it up your bum!"
2) The damage estimate made for interesting reading--- the total came to $12,000 Canadian Or just under $10K US... it includes 17 hours of labor just on the rear quarter panel!!! The estimated time for repair is 2-3 weeks.
3) Someone asked about driving the car over to get repaired. IIt wasn't driveable and it couldn't be brought over on a flat bed either, by law! So that wasn't about to happen.
4) I'm driving a rented Chrysler Sebring Touring around and it really makes me want my car back even more!! It's way better put together than your average GM fleet car, but the tail light is working its way loose, and I'm totally spoilt rotten with automatic wipers and lights... !! In it's defense, the automatic Chrysler is effortless to drive, which is a welcome change right now as I get over my aches and pains...

I'll be sure to put some "after" photos up once I get the car back, but here's a little reminder of her former beauty.. This one is from the delivery in Munich- this photo taken outside the BMW Museum shortly after getting the car...

Oh one addendum on the Roadside assistance issue- I've given up now (it's just not worth my time) but I did follow up once to the call that was never returned...

I talked to this really snooty guy who instead of acknowledging that any mistake was made by anyone, has the balls to say to me...and I paraphrase him "You don't qualify for Trip Interruption Benefits, but what difference does it make?! You would have had to incur the hotel stay ANYWAY, right?"

Yes, well if you're reading this, BMW people, those words and the butt-ugly rear-end of the E90 might take me elsewhere for my next car- be warned!
