mr. e mentioned it to me once, and it holds true. if you get smaller rims, your car will look pretty bad, esp if you -2 size it. (that's when i was considering going w/ 16s.) even w/ the 17s, and 45 profiles, i see a lot more black in my wheel well that i woudl like. prolly because i'm used to the nice 18s filling up the space.

as for the perf aspect, i think you give up the handling due to longer side walls, ride will be different, softer in everyway, good and bad.
the performance winter tires are pretty good in the dry, not high perf good of course, but pretty good. you gotta figure even in the winter, how many days is the snow and ice covering the road? (well at least in michigan, i'd say 10% if not less.) hard to drive your high perf car like a granny due to soft tires.. but i have a feeling it'll let you know when you step over the q rated boundaries. but on the same token, they do give up some ice and snow traction compared to non-high perf snows, something like the nokians that keeps on getting rave reviews. all i know is that any snow tire is better than the best a/s tire, and once temp hits south of 40s, my high perf tires are worthless.

anyway, i wish everyone safe motoring in the cold winter months, dry, or snowed or in between.

Right On. As long as my 16" handle good thats all I care about. I won't be doing any crazy driving during bad weather. That's why I got my PS2 :)
