I had a steel blue 330cic on order, but I had asked the salesperson to show me a Mystic Blue they had coming in in a couple of weeks.

I saw it yesterday, and it was love at first sight! We took it instead of the one on order.

2004 330cic, Mystic Blue, sand interior, sport & premium packages, 18-inch wheels, navigation, xenon lights and PDC.

Here's a pic but it looks much, much better in person:

Thanks!

I have two questions that you folks may have the answer to.

We drove the car last night and when we got home I had a look at the xenon lights. Unlike other cars, they don't seem to have a blue cast. Do I really have the xenons? The paperwork indicates xenons, and I was wondering if there's a way to tell for sure?

Also, the cooling fan for the engine seems kind of loud; is this normal?

Gawd I sure hope so. I think it is the ugliest color BMW has. Restricting it to one car would be a godsend.
Laguna Seca Blue is only available on the M3 and it looks absolutely amazing in my personal opinion. I like that it's exclusive to the M3 (because it probably wouldn't look good on regular BMW's).

Great choice. I traded in a steel blue '00 323 for the mystic blue '04. ENJOY!! Good luck with the break-in period. Have you tried the remote top down (pushing and holding the unlock for a second time)? You'll probably get more top down days than I will up here in Chi-town, but the cabrio is great.

Careful about using the feature to open the top from the outside. It can totally suck juice from the battery since the car is not on...however since yours in brand new it probably won't hurt too much.

Did they change that feature for the 2004s? To open my roof from the outside I have to stick the key in the lock, turn and hold it to the left.

I can tell from your picture that you have the xenons. You DEFINITELY have them.

Look here and see mine:

The cooling fan is a bit loud sometimes for sure. Even louder if you leave it idling for a minute or two when it is hot, then take off. The fan clutch really kicks in sometimes.
Thanks, I was worried there for a moment.

Yes, according to my salesperson it was a new for 04' feature. But the problem is that the key in general has a very short range and only operates right near the car. On my Acura MDX I can open and close the doors remotely from 50 feet away. The 330 is more like 7 feet. Maybe this has to do with the rechargeable battery inside the key housing?

I find that my remote fobs have terrible range. My Chrysler fobs would work from literally hundreds of feet away. I could trigger my car in the parking garage from my downtown apt balcony. I find that I can get some extra range by holding the key up to my chin when pressing the buttons. Maybe my head is acting as a huge antenna?? Can't be anyworse than a cell phone for brain damage, right?

The remote top down feature was not on my '00 323. It may have even been a mid year switch for the 04's as it seems not everyone has it. There have been other threads about this. Safety,...

Yes, the range isn't tremendous. Yes, the chin thing seems to work. Sometimes, I wonder if the weather has something to do with it. I've had a few aborted attempts from far away where the top stops on the way down--a real bummer if you're trying to "show off" to passers by. Although some have said this can deactivate the feature, I have not found this to be the case. Sometimes, I have had to put the top up, other times I can push the dash button and get it to continue down. The great thing about the BMW top is that it's totally auto. I was putting it up with the key in the door as the Boxster owner got into his car next to mine and he liked that feature; although the Boxster top is faster, it requires a manual unlatching.

Another switch from my "00 is that for the manumatic feature, upshifts are now a pull rather than a push. Being used to pushing to upshift, I shifted an M3 I was testdriving from 2 to 1 as I pulled away from a stoplight-OOPS! Glad it wasn't mine, although supposedly you can't make a downshift with SMG or Steptronic that would over-rev the engine, right???

DigDawn: What color top did you get? My wife kind of insisted on the black, but I saw an M3 with a blue top that looked great. Again, not a big deal when you're driving.
