I knew this would happen. This subject is almost as controversial as what Motor Oil to use (or how often to change your oil). I don't want to cause trouble here... just provacative discussion. Im still not 100% sold on the mototune procedure. His thought process does make sense to me. I did not realize that he is selling magazine subs. That doesn't mean that he doesn't have some (possibly) useful information on his website. I will also state that building a motor is building a motor is building a motor. Some companies build them better than others. Piston engines all use rings (regardless of cylinder materials) which need to be allowed to seat properly. For all I know, BMW might do that before they even drop the engine in the car (on a test stand... a very common procedure). It wouldn't suprise me one bit. I never got a chance to tour their factory while I was in Germany (I regret that). But I digress. For my new vehicles I try to vary the load and RPM on the engine (after a proper warm up). I don't take it all the way to redline for at least a few hundred miles... but I do get progressively closer and closer to redline. I guess you can't go wrong with the factory reccomendation... but being a motorhead I always want to know why?... how it works?.... how fast does it go?... and how can I make it faster? I always try to keep an open mind... I know some things... but I sure don't know everything. Any-who.... just my 2 and a half cents.

first off, welecome aboard and congrats purchase capt! for the regular 3ers the break in is 1200 miles while keeping varying rpm upto 4500 rpm and under 100 mph. be extra gentle during the first 200, 300 miles so your brakes and tires among other parts can be broken in correctly. (5500rpm just maybe for the m3s..) read over your drivers manual for correct breakin procedure. i stupidly just went on instinct and what others posted w/out reading the manual. only after the whole break in, i went back and read it and i missed something.. (can't remember now tho)

as for xenons: as newly minted mods (congrats btw) [thumb] mentioned, getting the high beam sets prolly won't help much. and i also imagine you'd have the day time running lights off, so you'd hardly ever see the xenon high beam only lights in action. also since your car will come w/ bi xenons (where they open up the rest of the lens to get the full high beam effect) you won't need a separate set. and they low beams and highs are never on at the same time, so it won't make your lights' colors funny.

xenon fogs: i'm not sure about codex's assessment of the xenon fogs being 10x worse, but i'm not sure how well xenons work in the situation. he is right on the account of fogs needing to point low, due to reflective nature of fogs. one things for sure tho, during the regular night, having xenons and halogen fogs on at the same time takes away from some of the cool factor, esp in the zhp, since zhp fogs look damn nice, but has yellowish halogen hue when on, thus it looks a bit mismatched. imo anyway. btw, have any of you driven w/ high beams when the snow's really coming down? really cool sight, and almost eerie calm.. but your eyes get tired pretty quick.

I have an 04 ZHP with the Xenon lights and you actually have Bi-Xenon's. The low and high beams are both Xenon, however when you "flash" your high beams they are standard lights due to the fact that the Xenon's need to warm up. As for the fog lights, since you live in a fog area you definately do not want to replace them as the halogen is much better in the fog.
