My dealership just called, my car arrived yesterday!! I am going to pick it up tonight after work, probably 6:30 EST. Too bad its a rainy day here!! But - to give you an update on the Owner's Circle, it still says "In Final Processing Center". I have found that it is moderately accurate, but usually a day off. It seems to be somewhat accurate up until it arrives at the US destination.
Congratulations! I drove mine home yesterday. I had work/personal conflicts on Monday and it rained on Tuesday. When I went in to the dealership yesterday, my car was on the showroom floor! I got to drive it out. It was an amazing experience. They gave me a bottle of champagne and gave my wife a rose. The drive home was amazing. The 6-speed is so much fun to drive.

Thanks for the info Susie! My dealer said my ETA date is 3/18 which is today! The OC still says its at the VPC. I hope the OC is wrong and the dealer's ETA is right!

Have fun with your new BMW!

Is it customary to get a bottle of Champagne? I would love it! I have a few little demands .. they'll be giving me a few BMW chotchke's before I leave there tonight ... I just hope there is a "surprise" bottle of bubbly for me to enjoy on the way home.
JOKING!

Mine still not yet assigned a production date....Question > When do they assign a vin # to the car and is it posted on the owners circle tracking software.

I noticed it shows my production number but obviously the vin is still blank.

Based on my experience, your VIN# is assigned and posted to the OC as soon as its "Scheduled for Production".

As for the update frequency, it was several days behind real-time. My car was sched for prod on 2/13, but the OC wasn't updated until 2/17.

jcrosi-The owner's circle is updated weekly at best, definitely not daily. The 800 # is not much better and they seemed annoyed for you asking the status. Your vin# will show up soon and normally production starts a few days after that. I think it takes 7-10 days to build a car from the stamping dept until it runs out the door. In my case, the car was always further along than what the site says. After the car got to the port of export, it was fun to see what Wallenius ships were leaving on certain dates and trying to figure which ship your car made it on until the vin# showed up on the ship's log. If you want to keep a record of your car, print each step off now from the owner's circle because once you take delivery, the car's record disappears from the website.

Thanks for the Info

I have been checking daily, think I will stop that. Also have been using the 1-800 automated service, but last night decided to ask for a customer service rep. She was pretty freindly but short with her answers. In any event she informed my car was scheduled for production for the 14th week. I am assuming that is the last week of March/ first week of April. I guess with any luck I may have by mid May.

It will be intersting to see of OC is updated next week to coinside with what the dates the service rep indicated.

thanks again

I just posted a new thread "First Impression..." Read it! : ) It's pretty lengthy and I feel I sum up a lot of my opions in the post. I think you made a wise decision to stop checking the OC daily ... you will become obsessed and frustrated when the status doesn't change. Your delivery day will come before you know it!

I get 3 different answers depending on who (or what) I ask.

- The website shows the car in the wrong color with the wrong options since the dealer used an order in the pipeline and changed it to my specs.
- 800 automated line says the vehicle is "In transit".
- 800 Customer Service Rep has the right color and options with a production date of 3/17.

My vote is with the Customer Service Rep.

NC330 - your dealership should have the most accurate information. I kept on my salesperson to keep me posted with my car's progress. Did he get annoyed and sick of hearing from me? Probably, but I got the answers I wanted, and they were always more current than what I saw on the OC site. I would double-check with the salesperson about the options and color. My dealer did the same thing - they swapped my car into a spot they already had on order - but my options were reflected within like 2 days on OC.

Does anyone know why a BMW dealer and BMW customer service representatives would want to keep a paying customer in the dark about the transport status of his car? My car is later than originally expected and I get a sense from everyone I talk to that they know more than they're telling me.

The only thing I can think of is that the car was damaged in transit and they need the extra time to repair it at the VPC.

Is it really possible that everyone responsible for delivering a $60K product would allow it to drop from their radar for days?

I'm in Belmont, CA. The oc *still* says "in transit," but I'm 95% certain that it arrived in CA 7 days ago. It was transported on NYK line and they don't allow you to track their cargo. However, they do allow you to track the ship schedules and, as best I can figure, it was transported on "Kuala Lumpur Express."

Just called the 1-800 number and finally some movement. "In production with an estimated completion date of 03/31" but the OC still showing "On Order" In my case it was ordered on March 4th and in production on March 21st. Not too bad, I only hope it stays on a smooth schedule

Maybe with some luck, should have by end of April - Live in Upstate NY - Just Maybe

Damn, still have to sell the A-4 ---------Anyone interested:

1998, A-4, 2.8 Quattro, Winter Package, Sport Package, 61, 000 miles, Automatic Starter, Heated Seats, Bose Sound System

Don't bother with the 800 # or OC website -- they're both hopelessly inaccurate. The only people who can share information on the progress of your car are at your dealer. All of the BMW reps I've talked to via the 800 # say they "upgraded" their computer systems so they can no longer track the car past the port of exit. Riiight.... What a joke.

Anyway, if your dealer is like mine, you'll have a hard time getting any accurate information on when the car will be delivered. The good news for you is that, once the ship sets sail, it should arrive in NYC in less than two weeks.
