Satellite Radio?

I'm getting Sirius satellite radio installed by the dealer, but they won't be able to until November. I think it has something to do with a software conflict it had with the nav system in older model years. It's fixed with the 2004's, so I'm not sure what the delay is.

If you have a nav system in your 2003 330, then you probably have to get a 3rd party satellite radio system.

Satellite Radio

Thanks a lot for the replys guys! I guess soundgate provides an adapter for either the XM or the serius. I don't have NAV (I have a map in the glovebox) so I guess that won't be a problem. Now I just have to decide between XM and Sirius. I'd like to do the install myself, but Im a bit nervous with my 40 grand car. Im going to check into getting a BMW shop to do it. Any opinions/advise?

Thanks again! www.soundgate.com [burnout]

To DrPierceMD........IMO, satellite radio is like having satellite TV..........hundreds of channels to choose from..........and most guys like hundreds of channels either in radio or TV to flip through.......I would like it for the mere fact of not having to flip through 100's of CD's all over my car.........[?|]

I want satellite radio for a several reasons: 1. When on a long drive, there are often areas that have nothing but crappy radio stations. You can listen to the same station coast-to-coast on satellite. 2. The quality of the sound over the FM airwaves is several notches below a CD (prove it to yourself next time you hear a song on the radio that you happen to have on CD, then pop the CD in and hear the difference). Satellite radio is digital, near CD quality. 3. There are commercial-free music streams for just about every genre. No more scanning the dial to find something you like. Sirius has at least 5 or 6 streams I can see listening to all the time. 4. ESPN radio is on all the time. 5. More variety than the CDs I would happen to have in the car at any one time.

All other things being equal, I would choose XM, but Sirius is very good also, and it's worth it to me to have it stock and controlled through the stock head unit & steering wheel buttons. Sirius is also 100% commercial free, while XM has some commercials. I think Sirius will survive because there are too many car companies that provide it as an option to let it fold.

JIMDAN...how do you like the Delphi system? i get mixed reviews, the main reason I like it, is it matches the dash colors...is the sound quality Ok? did you install it yourself, also? i wonder how the antenna gets into the car to plug into the reciever, if its mounted on the roof? does anyone have the answer to that?

Update-

I ended up getting an XM system installed by a stereo shop. They did a great job. The Pioneer mini control head is in the ashtray, so it is out of site when not in use. I will try te get around to posting pics. XM is soooo sweet! So many stations! I travel quite a bit, and I hate getting cought out in BFE with a small case of the same old CDs.... not anymore! I highly recommend it!

Hey kawrider...did you get a chance to photo your installed tuner? I'm struggling about where to place my tuner and any advice (pictures) would be helpful!!

I run XM and have the Delphi unit installed with the optional AUX adapter to my HK system and the bracket that is availalble from www.panavise.com I think XM blows away Serius and has 7x the subscribers.
is it the skyfi unit that is portable between car and home? i am interested in putting one in a 5 series, but am unsure of how to get the wires out of the radio compartment and into the passenger compartment without damaging the dash (they sure have it buttoned up tight) and where to draw power? i was think the cigarette lighter if i can find a way to get the wire to it.

any suggestions appreciated.

I'm finally getting it installed Tuesday (months later than when they originally thought they'd have the software update for nav/Sirius), and they quoted me $300. I thought originally they said $600, but I'm not complaining.

I have Sirius in my 03 330i with NAV. It integrates nicely into the NAV head unit, audio quality and programming are very good. I have not listened to FM Radio since the day I got it.

I bought a 40gig iPod with the iTrip adapter from apple. This, much to my suprise, has an awesome sound. The dither of the mp3 format was almost completely smoothed over by
transmitting the audio via the analogue FM radio. The iTrip can transmit on FM channels as high as 107! It's great, and I can take the iPod into my office or house and listen to my music in the same method.
Later.
