The handle part that is attached to the glass is only the handle with the pivot that you're talking about. The wiper motor appears to be in the rear hatch. The pivot engages into a hole in the motor assembly. Something in there apparently grabs onto the pivot and rotates back and forth.

I started the car this afternoon, and the wiper moved about 2 or 3 inches, which was a surprise to me. I think either the wiper arm is just too hard to move (seized pivot?), or whatever grabs the pivot and moves it is not engaging fully.

The wife has the car out of town for a couple of days, so I won't be able to look at it again until the weekend. Anything further would be appreciated.

OK, the wife got rear-ended on her way home, but it didn't affect the operation of the rear hatch or glass. She's fine, by the way. Now I'm wondering about replacing the entire hatch and glass from a junker.

When the car is unlocked and the glass is up, the car keeps on unlocking the glass. You can hear it happening occasionally for no reason at all at random times. The gremlins are back...

Well, things are improving... My wife left the interior lights on overnight. I had to jump the car in the morning. When the battery was discharged, I suppose the computers reset themselves, and the glass hatch no longer pops up for no reason. Occasionally, I try the wiper and it moves just a tiny bit. I wonder if the pivot is just not lined up properly with the wheel that spins it in the trunk lid. Also, the wiper moves somewhat more freely than it did before.

Any ideas ?
