What do you guys think about this:

NEVER had problems braking with my summer tires and rims.

With my winter tires and rims, I too have problems with driving on the highway for long times in heavy rain (temperatures slightly above freezing). I need to brake every few minutes when it rains heavy and I'm driving around 80 mph. If i don't, it takes 2-3 seconds before the brakes finally dry so I feel decelleration. The first time I noticed this it was quite scary......

SO why would there be a difference??? Same set of brakes.

BTW, the car is a 2003 330d.
Summer rims type 44, tires both michelin and continental 225/45 17
Winter rims type 3 I believe, tires conti wintersport 205/50 17

This amazes me, at 80 mph you are traveling 382 to 327.3 feet before you feel any decelleration? You guys have some serious brake issues. We do not have the freezing temps here, but we get some heavy duty rain and I have never experienced any brake failure for other than the few rotor rotations it takes to dry them off, nano-seconds! I do not know what to tell you.

Well I have never had this experience before. I have a 2003 330i and I live in Monterey and recently we have had the most rain ever in less than 2 months of more than 40 inches in 2 months and the rain finally has stopped. Well Im thinkiing, 4-5 seconds? I personally believe it can be something in the brake system itself. I would strongly suggest visiting the dealer and having them check it...But for me, i do sometimes drive fast since Im a amatuear photojournalist having to go to placess left and right and I drove in the rain with 60 +mph speed and all I did was keep more distance in front of me and brake a little when I drove through big puddles or snow. Car runs just fine for me..

I have noticed this once or twice, but only for 1/2 - 1 sec at the most, and in HEAVY TORRENTIAL rainstorms. And this also happens on my other vehicles in similar weather. so I never considered it a weakness of the BMW.

Hydroplanning - it might explain the difference between your tires, the summer ones are better at channeling water. If you are driving 80 mph in heavy rain, you are hydroplaning, at least partially.

i drive around in freezing cold with lots of rain all through the winter. I also have other rims and tires but the brakes themselves remained unchanged. I do not have that problem...I am really astounded of the trouble some guys are seeing. take it to the shop is my best advice. brakes are too sensitive to not deal with them professionally
