I live about 2 miles off the highway and my work is also about 2 miles from the highway. Coupled that with about 25 miles highway at 80mph and I get 40+ mph average. [driving2]
Me too. I live about 1.5 miles from the highway, and my office is literally right off the highway (280), so I don't have much street driving at all. My commute is 45 miles each way, and 280 is hardly ever congested. If I took another highway (like 101) I'm sure my average speed would drop considerably since that highway is a freakin' parking lot.

I actually did have a 100+ MPH average for a trip between Barcelona Spain and Lisbon Portugal in my 2001 325Ci. [driving2]

I did the "European Delivery" thing and it was the most fun I have ever had in my BMW.

For my daily commutes, it's under 30. [:(]

Just checked, 36.9mph.

When I rest it before my trip home from school, I get it to be about 68.5 average. Thats not bad since half an hour of my trip is traffic....hehehe

My commute to work is 30 miles each way on a mostly 3 lane highway. Although Arizona is notorius for slow drivers in the left lane, my avg MPH readouts range around 87-89 MPH from the on-ramp to the off-ramp which is pretty freakin fast. Unfortunately, BMW allows the avg MPH to decrease when stopped at a light. I've always thought that it should only average speeds when in motion.

I know that I averaged about 80-83 in my old Lexus IS300, and now I almost always find myself ~90-110 in my ZHP (until traffic slows me down!). I know I need to be more careful and slow down, but it's so much fun to HIT IT every time!

Cheers!

28 mph [:(] 19 mpg
Half my commute to work is off the highway and in one stretch it seems they don't want traffic to flow. I hit red light after red light that last like 45 seconds at cross streets that are really side streets with barely any cars (Evanston).

My old job had about 20 miles on I 294 in a reverse commute; I had to drive it the other day at around noon. Left lane: 85-90 just to keep up with traffic. Brought back memories. [hihi]

I live really close to work so my avg mph is really low. Somewhere around 30 mph.

However I did just (yesterday) go over my break-in period mileage. I took it out and got up to 130 mph before my wife asked me to back off a little, so I cooled it to 120 mph. Great feeling passing that cop doing 130 mph!

Oh, yeah....I live in Germany. I'm going to take her out this weekend and see about that electronic limiter.....:)) 155mph can't wait!!!

New here, just picked up my 2003 330i on Sat. Notice the computer shows average speed per hour (KM in my case) also gas consumption but got to wonder if the thing is actually working on mine or not. Is a used car (very clean) but notice the avg speed and gas consumption never changed since I picked it up. It stays at 43.5KM/hour and 10.5L/100KM for the past two days. How can I check that out? Anyone please help.

It is possible that if the L/KM and KM/HR were not reset for a long time (like many tankfuls of gas), the values would change very little or not at all.

Reset the values by pressing and holding the "BC" button on your turn signal stick while displaying the value you want to reset. The value is reset if the display shows dashes. After that it should start changing for you. BTW "BC" stands for Board Computer.

did that and it's working fine now. Thanks a lot!!
BTW the computer shows; time, temp, KM/hr, KM/L and what's the last one? Is that how much more KM gas in tank will last?

Yes, it supposedly shows how much further you can drive until you hit empty.

However, can someone shed some light on this... When the display shows no distance left, is the car now running on the 2.1 gallons of reserve? I've definitely gone a good 10 miles or so with the display showing no distance remaining. The manual says the fuel tank holds 16.6 gallons w/a reserve of 2.1. When I fill the car up with the needle on empty and the remaining distance is zero, I can only fit a bit over 16 gallons. Is the true fuel capacity 18.7 gallons?

I hear you loud and clear Dr.Keng. I used to live in Burr Ridge with my folks after I finished college for about a year, and I had to go up and down I55 and part of 294 to get to work then (I live in the city, now), and rush hour morning traffic was always pretty miserable--especially the rt.83 through Pulaski patch. But if you go outbound when people are going in, and inbound when people are going home...you can catch some nice traffic, like you said. I have friends on the northside who say 90/94 is pretty crappy during rush hour, too. Last time I posted, I had 29.3, I checked again this morning, and it was 29.1...

that sounds about right. every car manufac does their "best" to dummy proof the cars, esp since we are so law suit happy. (imagine if your car ran out of gas, w/ the miles to meter showing 2-3miles!! [eek] you bet ya the ambulance chasers will try to throw everything in the court room.) you do the math, average mpg is x. your tank is 18.7 gallons, you just put on y number of miles. (18.7 x) - y = miles you have left to go. of course that's if you reset your trip everytime you fill up..

whatever, i've driven w/ the yellow fuel light on, but i usually fill up right away. my life isn't so mundane that i need excitement "kramer style" (there was a seinfeld ep about it.) so i fill up often and drive drama free..
