The " funny " thing is they say they specialize in luxury cars ..HA my a** they do!! we don't have alot of quality shops here . Most didn't know what v-cool or optik was when I called .one guy was giving me directions to his shop and it wound up being his parents garage..[rofl] Uh no thank you ..So these guys have a picture of a BMW on the yellow pages add and have the largest selection of tint .So I went with them.

Thanks alot for the input guys and gal. Codex recommended I try and push the tint up and it worked alittle on the top left .The film is too wet now to get good results . I used an old bondo applicator with a towel wrapped over it .It worked alittle but some parts are still wet.

Yes I'll have them redo it if its not perfect in 2 weeks . At 36 yrs old I don't let business's take advantage of me anymore like when i was young and I would believe everything they say because their the experts right. At 340 bucks I'm not letting up till I get perfection.

well my good friend 's good friends is good friends with the owner...and that means alot in Hawaii..hope I didn't lose you on that one..So I 'm positive this will work out alright.

Huper Optik is not 24k but is ceramic based . It takes longer to dry but cuts the heat way better than others and isn't as dark..

Huper Optik and V-Kool aren't the same as regular tint. They have amazing heat rejection properties. If you're in any of the Southern states, I'm a little surprised you haven't heard of it. Yeah, they're extremely expensive, but totally worth it IMO. I dunno about you, but here, I get 100+ degree temps and with a black interior, that's not fun. I had limo tint on my old car and it was still super uncomfortable after a day in the sun. I can't imagine how it woulda been with a black leather or vinyl interior. Now, if I put the sunshade up on the windshield, I can get in with shorts and it'll only be mildly warm in the car. The stuff is just amazing.
I'm looking to get my windows tinted soon, I saw your description of these two tints on your cardomain site. How "extremely expensive" are we talking?

Wow, sorry to see that poor tint job, jonnyz16. Definitely bring it back to the guy if it hasn't settled down in a week and see what he can do about it. Uusally, they're supposed to squeeze all the bubbles and ripples in the tint out, when they are installing it, not wait for them to "settle down" over time...that's super gay. Take it back and see if you can arrange something...but if the guy doesn't have skillz enough to fix tint your rear window properly, take it to another place.

hey MrE yeah they rushed the job and will probably end up erdoing the back , upon my request of course. I talked to my friends friend lastnight and he said the owner is cool and always has good business practices..As Ace Ventura would say " Reeeeeeaaaaaaalllllyyyy.I did not know that."

to answer slats question , I paid ( hawaii prices always higher ) 340.00 for my 325 Ci . When you go to a shop I highly recommend you talk to this guy about the black dots on the inside of your windows around the edges. Those dots are on the inside and create a problem with the tint sticking properly.

The problem is these are high end tints. The stuff they use in those million dollar + homes. So, not too many places sell them so you can't bargain too much due to lack of competition.

I paid $275 for the back 3 windows on my 325ci coupe. It would have been $375 for all 5 windows. This is for Huper.

For the V-Kool, the shop that did it charged me around $140 or 150 (can't remember) for the front two windows. They quoted $415 or something like that for all 5 windows.

Insanely expensive, but to me, with the heat we get around here, worth the price and then some.

I don't think I could have driven off with the tint looking like that man.. That's the worst shop job tinting I've seen, other then someone doing it themselves with a spray bottle of windex.. [:(] I'd go back ASAP, making you wait 2 weeks may be pushing you past some sort of return policy of his that you may not be clued in on. I don't wanna badmouth him especially if he's a known local and your bud says he's ok, but that just doesn't seem right, or good business..

You are the customer and even if you're not always RIGHT, you always know what you LIKE. Get it redone. [:)]

No doubt Section_8. I was thinking about the return policy thing, so I am going back asap to let them now that I'm not some pushover and I will not except anything other than the best .

Has anyone heard of the brand Llumac? What brands of films would you guys recommend?

I was quoted $185 on my four door for all windows except front. That's in a college town...but still that seems real cheap. The company I got the quote from is the one that does tinting for the local dealer here. So he can't be THAT bad.

What do you guys think? Too cheap? Bad brand film?

I am no film conossieur and have never heard of Llumac (which means nothing) but my gut instinct would be that you could trust the tinting company your BMW dealer uses. I did the same thing, asked my dealer who they used and went there.

Just make an appt. go and check the place out. If it is outdoors under a tent, leave. If it is in a closed, clean garage, you may be OK.

Mine was $165 for my 2 door, all windows except the front, maximum legal tint.

A reputable installer is not going to use cheap film and do a crappy job, and I think your dealer tinter is likely reputable.

Check the guarantee. Mine gave me full written lifetime warrantee, the guy has been in business 25 years, and he said "Don't worry, you won't be back because the film or installation faied, otherwise he wuldn't be offering a lifetime warranty". I stayed there while he did it and chatted with him and the whole experience was good.

My film looks perfect, flawless.

Good luck to you.

I guess his quote is in the ball park. The name of the film is Llumar, sorry. It seems to be a popular brand.

What do you guys think of the Blue Titanium? Thumbs up or down?

I have Llumar on my '99 Acura TL. Its pretty good, no problem with it so far and I got the car tinted 5 years ago and paid around $200.

My V-Kool is bluish in color and our Mercedes has blue tint stock. It looks ok. A little weird at first cuz it's out of teh ordinary, but you get used to it. I'd stick with regular grey tint though.

Window tinting technology

Just got my new ride a 330i ZHP in Titanium Silver. I was talking to my buddy. He has a MB E500. He said that he got his tint as a "spray on". any word on what this is and advantages / disavantages ? Recommendation on brands of tint and cost ?

I think the tint dudes you are dealing with are smokin something like crack, hemp or are just inexperienced and brain damaged. I got my bimmer tinted, all windows took immediately 50% all the way around with no freakin dot sticking stories, no peeling, fuss or problems. I did not have to wait two weeks for it to take. I could not roll down my windows for 24 hours. My humble opinion is to find another tint shop that can do what you pay them to do... My tint still looks good after 4 years... That's my two cents, Happy motoring...

johnnyZ, i've got Huper 30 installed on my car (sedan) and I can definitely say, that the installer screwed up on your install. definitely take it back and make them redo. try to negotiate a lower price for your "troubles", i paid 230 for the whole car. good luck, once they install it correctly, you'll be happy with the decision on Huper!

Thanks guys for the input . I posted this thread about 2 months ago and have since went back and had them push the tint up . Looks good but not great . Its very humid here in hawaii and takes longer for the water to dry ..I love the huper optik.
