Just got mine reprogrammed

For what it's worth, I just had my AC computer reprogrammed yesterday (took the dealer two days to figure things out). Anyways, obviously I don't know if it's really fixed, but they said it'd take care of everything. Since I ride my motorcycle a lot during the week, I'll probably find out sometime next week.

Re: not just 04's

I had the same exact problem with my 2003 325i. AC drained battery in off position. Dealer replaced unit and so far no more problems. It's not just the 04's.

No, it is not just the '04's. The post March '03 3ers are the same car as the '04, identical exept for a couple of available options. I have the '03 PP (all PP's are the new '04 design) and they have the same problems as the 04.

Today on my way to work I lost all control of my A/C unit. It is on "Auto" and I cant get it off. Nor can I change temp or fan speed. I think this may be a good thing, perhaps I can get the thing fixed for good now. I hope they just replace the whole unit.

I was told by the dealer to leave th control at 1 setting until the software is corrected, messing with the controls causes an electrical fault etc...

Oh the love of cars !!!

The problem is with the new style IHKA (Air conditioning) control panel BMW switched too in the Ci and Cic. If you notice the button layout is slightly different. From what I understand, all the 04's up to a certain production date (sorry I don't know the date) are affected. If you change more than two settings on your IHKA panel, the IHKA will not go to sleep after you turn the key off. One way to get around this is when you park, turn the key off, then back on, then off again without changing any settings. I don't know yet if the new software is in at the dealers yet that will allow reprogramming to fix this. Last I heard the only way to get rid of this problem was to switch back to the 03 style IHKA panel. This should only affect you car if you let it sit for a couple days untouched. So try that Key on off trick for now and I'm sure the software will be in soon. Good Luck!!

Tweety bird,

The only other problem I have is the rattling passenger door speaker. It only happens when that speaker gets low frequency input. CDs don't rattle the speaker as much as the radio for some reason. BTW I really don't consider it a "problem".

Otherwise I couldn't be happier with the car. I love everything about it.

I drove a loaner 2003 325i when mine was in the shop and the 330Ci BLOWS DOORS off the 325i. Handling, power, overall feel and ride is far superior in the 330 Ci.

Drive on bros.

BMWROCKS: I have the rattling passenger speaker issue too (mainly with cd's though). BMW replaced the top speaker in the door in hopes that the noise would go away, but I have the same problem with the new one. It seems to me that the noise is also coming out of the bottom speaker in the door, however BMW told me that they can't replace those (why, I don't know).

And other than the long list of problems I have had with my car, I guess I couldn't be happier with my car either. I just wish I could stop having these problems long enought to enjoy it.

After spending upwards of $40k on a new BMW 330Ci, I know that I would definitely consider a rattling speaker a problem. I'd be pissed if my dealer said they couldn't replace it. That's crap - it has to be replaceable. If they can't get it as a separate part because it is permanently mounted in the doorpanel or something stupid like that, then they would just be replacing the entire doorpanel on my car. I definitely would not put up with something that is as potentially annoying as a rattling speaker in a brand new car of any price, let alone a $40k BMW.

I must say that the number of problems you guys have been having with your 2004 3 series cars is highly discouraging. [confused]

The speaker problem is fairly common in the 2003 CIC's as well or so my dealer says, both of the passenger side speakers are being replaced next week on mine........my dealer says they keep a fair amount of speakers in stock at all times for all the problems with them.......as he tells me, you purchased the car for the engineering, performance and safety......the stereo is Harmon Karmon's products...[?|] [?|]

Mine just went in today for a new tranny - the shop order also listed the A/C update. No rattling speakers.....yet?

Yeah, like I said in another thread, I haven't been all that impressed by the HK components in the BMWs, at least in the E36's It's truly unfortunate.

Kirby, wow a new tranny already. Geez, what's going on here? [confused]

jrt67ss350: upwards of $40k try $50K+ in my case and highly discouraging.
[:(] If it werent for my previous '98 328i with absolutely no problems and 3 other BMWs in the family with practically little to no repairs ever needed, I would swear off BMWs for life at this point.
I must say i really do like my car when it runs, and the top actually goes down and the speakers dont rattle and I can get from point A to point B without cylinder failure. And every time i turn the steering wheel or step on the brake my suspension makes this awful squealing noise that seems to turn heads blocks away. [:(!]

In my opinion, BMW builds amazing machines. Recently I just don't know what has been going on with the quality of cars they have been producing. I really just want mine and everybody elses problems to stop because for what i paid for this car i shouldnt be having these problems.

I should have just held onto my 328, because i know i wouldnt have had any problems with that car [?|]

My Harley: which speakers are you having replaced?

My dad has an '02 330 cic and his HK speakers went on recall and got them replaced

Kirby: I dont know about anyone else, but my speakers have been rattling since the day i got my car.

When I said I didn't consider it a "problem", I guess I meant not a showstopper problem. All cars are going to have some minor problems. Is is disheartening to think a $45K+ car is having minor problems, but overall I think we are all satisfied. I also realize some of the probs are major (like Kirbys tranny) but he is in the minority. Imagine if you had a G35SC and your rotors warped (I have heard many of them are doing this on a regular basis), now that is a showstopper. At least BMW can fix the vast majority of their probs with software. A rotor warping prob is likely a design flaw and cannot be easily fixed for all cases.

The car is in right now for some damage repair the dealer did (bumper scratches) and they are fixing the speaker at the same time. They never said they wouldn't fix it. They just couldn't recreate it last time they looked at it.

This time I sat the service manager in the vehicle, closed the door and told him to listen for it. He heard it and promised me they would take care of it.
