Anyone agree with me about the 3 series in dash cd players?

My 2003 330ci also burned CDs fine, and has not skipped once.

It would be nice if in-dash CD players handled MP3s -- having 100 songs
on one CD would be great.

Last trip to the dealer, I notice BMW is promoting satellite radio for in-dash
installations (they would get a monthly subscription fee), so an MP3 unit
from BMW will likely not appear anytime soon...

I agree. I didn't even make it a month with the built-in CD player on my 325xi I bought a year ago. It frequently skipped, did not play MP3s, and didn't even have a pause button that I could find. The speakers sucked too. I had an Alpine CDA-7998 put in. In addition, I had my front speakers replaced with Boston Acoustics and my rear ones replaced with subs and I put an amp in the trunk. I lost the ability to use the volume control and all on my steering wheel but other than that, it is so much better.

My in-dash in both my '04 330 and '01 X5 play burnt CD-Rs and have NEVER skipped, then again I drive on paved roads, not cobblestone. I haven't tried CD-RWs.

I will state this one more time, get the Blitzsafe aux input adapter and plug it in your trunk and plug whatever analog-out 2-channel audio device you have into it and listen to whatever to your hearts content......

Got a weblink to it?

Sounds like what I need, I've got a very long aux cable, I could slip it through the back seats, and plug anything into it..

This is one of my posts in another thread. Do a google search on the thing to find a supplier:

There is the Blitzsafe alternative. Use the BMW/AUX DMX V.1 interface adapter for aux input only. Or BMW/ALP DMX V.1D to have aux + alpine CD changer. The install is easy, you just have to run some RCA cables into the car from the trunk for the aux part. I have mine routed so the RCAs come out inside the rear armrest, behind the leather flap. This is non-invasive and does not require taking the trim off or drilling and what not. It works pefect for my portable DVD player and would work for any audio device that you can connect RCA outputs to.

I do not know what it is but when I get back from my vacation I am going to make an appointment to have it checked out. My trip back to college is too long without a CD player!

Howcome so many of your CD players skip? CD players and skip protection have been around for a LONG time, even 2000 models should have NO skipping issues !! I honestly think that is truly unacceptable. I have a 6-disc in-dash CD changer in my car, it has a very stiff/harsh ride to it, and NJ/NY roads make things even worse, but I have NEVER had a skipping problem. Honestly, I never even thought of the possibility of a CD in any of our cars skipping anymore !!

Yeah, same here---never had a skipping problem ever, from either the dash CD or my trunk-mounted changer. I was even expecting to have some problems from the changer, but nothing---works perfectly!

No problems here with my '04 325xi. Have the NAV system and single CD player, with Harmon upgraded stereo. That system has awesome sound, and I've never had a CD skip. One time, I heard a rattle by the driver side door speaker, and got nervous. But, it turned out to be the tin of cigars in the side compartment that was getting the crap beat out of it by the stereo vibes.

I have an 04 CiC and The day I got it home I added the AUX input and ran it to my Ipod in the sunglass holder. I actually only used my cd player once, and with the Ipod will never use it again. Anyone who can get the Aux input, I highly recommend it. BUT.....

Does anyone have a problem reading there stero display???? at times the display looks about 50% as bright as the climate control right below it. when the sun is shining bright I can hardly read the station im on, and thats with the top UP!! I have had the car back in twice for other reasons and complained about the radio, and I have been told it functioning properly. Any one have any input on this subject..???

If my player is any indication they have not solved the problem with the 04's. Have the in-dash. It doesn't skip alot but it does skip sometimes on rough pavement.

I'll be honest, a skipping cd is about the last thing I expected. I have a cheap walkman used for running that has NEVER skipped.

I have had a 330Ci for three years with a rear mounted CD stacker and never experienced any such problems. Currently I have a '04 330Ci, also with CD stacker + 1 in-dash CD slot (behind retractable widescreen TV unit) and neither exhibit any skipping problems.

It seems like there are a number of different units out there, perhaps some are more susceptible than others?

[driving] When I got the car it came equipted with BOTH the indash CD and the 6-disc changer in the trunk. With a box filled with tapes, I impulsively bought the tape changer/radio on EBAY. Have not installed it. Thinking about taking the tapes and writing them to blank CDs.

I noticed CDs sometimes staying in, but I attirubted it to long road trip playing zillions of CD and warming up the unit. After a while, they popped out.

Now I am just deciding whether to "downgrade" my radio/CD to radio/tape.

There is a solution to the MP#/IPOD integration!!

Check out www.blitzsafe.com and check out the auxiliary section for BMW they will tell you how to obtain the RCA adapter for you IPOD/BMW CD integration.

Gaaah.. I wish there was something as simple as a stereo input jack so I could just plug in a Ipaq, or Ipod, Laptop, or whatever in, and play MP3's. I used to do that on my old car (dual CD and Tape). I had the tape adapter that had a stereo input end. I'd plug that in the headphone on my ipaq and play mp3's on my rides to work..

I think I saw a post floating around about an ipod. time to go searching..

How do you get CD track info to show up? I have a 2002 330i and my CD display does not show track info? All it shows is track01, track02 etc.
CD info doesn't show up, all that shows is the tracks...

On the side note in both the 325i and the 330i I have never had a CD skip even over bumpy roads, just in the 330i the harman kardon audio system gets louder and lower (annoyingly so) over bumps and what not.

no problems so far

i had a stock (not HK upgraded) in dash 'bmw business cd' cd/radio. never experienced any problems such as those mentioned in previous posts. the stock in dash system worked perfectly for as long as i had it. i recently had a never alpine stereo installed when i got XM radio. the new stereo is ok, but honestly i would MUCH rather have the stock in dash stereo back and maybe have the XM console installed into my ash tray(a friend of mine had this done). with the new stereo i lost use of my audio steering wheel controls (i never realized how much i loved those until i didnt have them any more [:(] ). i have had no problems with skipping or otherwise from the new stereo either.
