Anyone agree with me about the 3 series in dash cd players?

Never had a CD skip in any BMW we have ever had....2 330cics, 2 X5s, 325 sport wagon and the Alpina (and that is one hell of a stiff, I mean firm ride). The roads in L.A. are absolutely horrible, potholes, sinkholes, cracks, bumps....and never one skip [:)]

If my player is any indication they have not solved the problem with the 04's. Have the in-dash. It doesn't skip alot but it does skip sometimes on rough pavement.

I'll be honest, a skipping cd is about the last thing I expected. I have a cheap walkman used for running that has NEVER skipped.
the newer cd players should employ electronic shock protection, where they actually download the music into the buffer before playing it to prevent it from skipping, but i dont' think manufacs use it all that much. (such feat will prolly cost them a few pennies, thus automatically out of the question!) hitting a big bump and having music skip is just what happens.. i wouldn't exactly be shocked by it. (i'm not singling you out btw boilermaker alum (i suppose anyway))

as for your cheap walkman never skipping, of course! it's a tape player right? so would you like to put in a tape deck in your ride, so it wont' skip? [:p] (now i'm singling you out ^^;;

CD with Navigation Quit in The Middle of Nowhere

In August I moved to San Francisco from NYC. Needles to say, I drove my 2003 330ci. In the middle of the desert, my CD player quit (I have the Navigation System). So, I had no radio reception, no cell phone reception for a few hours along with no CD player for the rest of the trip. When I got to San Francisco, It took BMW/SF 3 WEEKS to get the replacement part.
I agree, the "upgraded" HK system is the worst part of the car.

Man I'm sorry to hear all of you are having skipping problems. Seems awfully cheap to me... the stock cd changer in my friends 94 doesnt skip, and the cheapo headunits in my parents pontiacs don't skip.

None, let me repeat none, NONE of BMW OEM CD players or 6 disc changers in any car thru today play MP3s. Did I say none? I meant to say NONE.
This may be true for BMW sold in the US. But there is the new 1 series where you can order a MP3-Option for your CD-Player.

Maybe when the new 3 series arrives, this option is there.

Thanks for pointing that out Andi. It's about damn time they caught up with the times as far as audio options go.

You know I truly believe they would sell more BMWs in the USA if they just payed attention to the little things like this. The little things that make the difference to Americans like me. Like an MP3 player, or multiple 12V jacks, or just include the aux input jack, the 6-disc player and the universal transceiver for cryin out loud.....

When you say they dont play mp3's you mean computer burned CD's right? I play burned CD's in the BMW OEM CD Player all the time, I will add that when burning them I chose the format "Music CD, plays in any CD player" before burning it...
