just curious, why does the plastic window turn that milky color? I always wondered why droptops, especially from luxury nameplates, don't use glass on all the converts.

I am topless almost every day..........several times a day I am raising or lowering the top.........we are still having 70 to 75 degree weather. My top does not have any fade marks or creases either..........I never park it in the garage at night with the top down and I brush it several times a week with a pet sticky roller.........your top may be damp from the mornings if its left outside and that is not good to put the top down until completely dry..........is this .02 worth??

Most plastics contain acryllic or polycarbonate which over time........becomes distorted.

Any convertible that still uses a plastic rear window is not worthy by today's standards. Plastic rear window is terrible...hard to see out of, flaps in the wind at high speeds, and just looks crappy!
I completely agree with codex, I really love convertibles and I would love to own one in the future, but not with a poopy plastic rear window !!
Actually, I really like the concept of the hard-top convertible (SLK, SC430, SL). It offers the fun of a convertible while providing the look and all-weather drivability of a coupe.

Are any convertibles still made with "poopy plastic rear windows" ? [:D] My dad's old 3er had a plastic window and it was awful. Always looked like crap, nothing could ever get the streaks and creases out.

MyHarley: I have never put the top down while it was wet. My dad and my converts both have the creases in the same spots and his top never gets wet unless when it is being washed. I dont know what it is. I think its just the way it sits folded in the storage compartment that causes the creases. You are lucky if you don't have them. They are ugly![:(]

I had an old Triumph Spitfire...er' Shitfire. Plastic rear window and absolutely zero power, small and low enough to drive under a semi-trailer, which I did a number of times [:D]

I had my conditioned when I purchased it, I couldnt tell you what the guy used..........it was when I was stupid enough and paid a guy $350.00 to detail it at a week old........maybe since I dont have creases and fade marks, the $350.00 was now worth it.......[rofl] [rofl]

I recommend 2, its only 75 lbs, but awkward & wouldnt want to scratch the paint. Its actually quite easy - overall. I am going to do the Hoist this spring.

It's insanly easy, release some latches and pop it off. You really do need two people though, just to lift it up and move it away from the car so nothing gets scratched.

Once it's off, one person can carry it if they have to, or if you get the holder you just stand it up and wheel it around. It would be much easier with two people though.

It's not heavy, it's just bulky.

Tweet, do you leave the top down when you park the car for the night, during warm weather? BMW salesmen say that you shouldn't leave the top down for really long periods of time, beacuse supposedly the top shrinks and forms creases or some crap like that.

I have, but I could count the number of times on one hand. The first time I put my top down was the day I picked up my car. Had it down for probably 8 hours. I put it up and there they were. No matter if it is down for 10 hours or 1, when I put it up the crease marks are still there and more defined. The last time I drove topless was probably mid November, and if you were to look at my car right now they are still highly noticable. I'll try to take some pics and post them so you can see what I am talking about. I just want to figure out a way to get rid of them. [rolleyes]

bmw advised me not to use any other products besides the bmw brand. Tweet just leave your cloth top up for a couple hours and the creases will disappear.

My top has been up for over a month and a half and the creases are still there. I guess they are just a downside of owning a convertible.

I have only had my soft-top up appx 4 or 5 times, its been hidden in the down position since I took delivery...I had no creases when I looked at it a month ago ?, I did this when I put the hard-top on..I wanted to be sure the soft-top was fully dry.

Hmmm ??

oh okay....i know exactly what creases you are referring to. They look pretty bad but I guess thats just something we have to suck up. But how did BMW get them out? When I purchased my car, i didnt see any creases at all. I brought mine used by the way.

I am shooting from the hip here,

But-

I have seen dealers use black spray paint on 1) Carpets 2) Seats etc..., I am not suggesting Dealers prep the soft-tops with black spray paint, but it would not surprize me either.

Dont do this at home !! in fact maybe the service dept can recommend something ?

Good Luck !!

and Oh Yaaaaa......

GO RAMS !!!!!!
