I got back from a nice 2-hour drive about 30 minutes ago. Mad traffic since everybody was going so slow. First I went to Blockbuster to pickup a few movies (which they were sold out of both), so then I went over to the supermarket and picked up a case of Pepsi Vanilla (I wanted Mountain Dew: Code Red, but they didn't have that shit), and then I went back to my local video store and got the movies !!
Anyways, I saw the most ridiculous thing. When I first headed out, I was going down my street, and it goes downhill at one part. There was a little traffic jam on the hill because for the cars trying to go up the hill, one car was stuck. I creeped up and quickly realized it was a BMW (distinctive BMW Xenons), and I was curious what car it was. I slowly went by it and it was a freaking M3 Convertible with the 19" wheels !!!!!!!!!!!! Who in their right mind, takes out their M3 Convertible when it's snowing !! Or maybe he took it out before it started snowing, but everybody knew it was gonna snow hard today !!!!!! Finally, he was able to get up the hill, which was pretty cool but I'm sure the driver wasn't having a good time.
People are dumb...some people were going pretty fast and the roads were VERY slippery !!
Dew Code Red [thumb]

I drove the Explorer, my wife drove the Suburban, the 330cic is warm and happy in the garage waiting for Spring!

My 330Cic is a Mad dog ready to take on any snow. Good car should be a 24/7 car.

Winter in Cleveland is like snow for one day good weather for 10... so its like summer only colder. I always jet wash under the car to get rid of the salt deposits after main snow days. I also added extra 8 cans of "White Lithium Greese" protection under the car and wheel area before winter started... so my car is very safe from any corrosion..

MrElussive, (who blocked me but still talks to my sis),...

Were you surprised that M3 convertible was in the winter or that M3 C. was with 19" summer tires?

the "Snowflake" button must always be on to keep the fogging from happening.........I learned this on my first day leaving the dealership........it was pouring down rain ...all the windows fogged including the front within seconds of the dealership, had to dead stop in traffic in downtown Houston and just sit there with everybody honking their horns and call the dealership....couldnt see a thing........[???1]

Two things that you can't control in winter driving that will damage your car:

1) Flying 'anti-skid' material kicked up by the car/truck in front of you. At 60 mph they are like shotgun pellets on your paint. Wanna see the front of my 87 Volvo after 200,000 miles of all year driving, 60,000 of those on the PA Turnpike?

2) The other guy. Yesterday, my brother's Tahoe got nailed (at low speed, no injuries) by a lady who skidded out of control at an intersection. Hit his front fender and wheel at about 20 mph. Took out the grill, hood, fender, door and bent the wheel under, damaging the A frame and steering arms. Looks like $6,000 - $9,000 damage.

My good car will STILL be a good car (24/7/20 YRS) in the spring after hibernating all winter!!!!!!

Push, I was surprised at both. Firstly, that a M3 Convertible was driving in a snow storm. Around here, people have a convertible as their second or third car, so it was awkward to see some guy driving what was probably his second or third car around in a snow storm KNOWING that was going to snow hard yesterday. Secondly, if it was his only car or he just planned to use his M3 Convertible during a snow storm, you would think that he would realize that he would need a set of snow tires rather than sticking with those 19" performance tires during the winter. Plus, if I had a M3 Convertible, I would just NEVER expose it to snow. [:D]

I drove home from school today in the snow and boy am I telling you with the Blizzak LM-22s I had COMPLETE control [driving2]. Only once over a period of three hours of straight driving did my traction control kick on. I took the car to an empty parking lot once I got home (with about 3 inches of snow on the ground) slammed on the brakes and my car actually stopped. No fishtailing, no skidding before stopping, no traction control. These things are amazing [thumb]...I can't wait for more snow! [:D]
Tweet, so the LM-22's really did make a world of difference? How about driving up hills that were snow-covered and slippery? Even though the car RWD, the snow tires were really that good??

I think that's crazeee too.

But then, maybe it's just a matter of perspective. Maybe his FERRARI is at home in the garage and the M3 is the WINTER BEATER!!!!!! [hihi]

Blizzaks are great. Even when you do skid it still feels like you are in control.

And about the winter paint thing...

I will never drive 200,000 on this car (engine will go first). Its a great car but it will be 15 years old and would probably be past on through my family.. And also,.. I get to enjoy a good car all year around [:I]

By that time I will be "cruising" [rofl] in something better. [wave]

Don't be so sure that the engine will go before 200,000 miles (unless of course you are abusive to your car) - I have close to 240,000 miles now on my 17 year old 325, and the engine still runs like it's brand new. The front edge of the hood looks like it's been sandblasted, however.

Yeah, but with the way BMW is aging, it looks like their older models will still be hotter than their newer ones.
I agree - that's why I plan on keeping this one for a long time. In 20 years, with the current "Bangle Mangle" designs, the E46 will be recognized as the last of a breed, and be a classic BMW.

Push, I too will be driving newer cars in the future, after the 330cic is paid for, I'll be looking at perhaps the M4, M Roadster (assuming they build it) or a 6 series, maybe even an M6. But I will keep the 330cic.

What I mean is that I would want to drive a newer car. No matter how good the car is age is an uncontrollable factor.
[???1]Maybe that's what you mean, but that's not what you said. You said, "I will never drive 200,000 on this car (engine will go first)." I was just pointing out that there is a good chance the engine will live into a ripe old age beyond 200,000 miles.[:p]

That's what I love about the desert S/W...

I wash/wax the car on the first of the month, and on the 15th I'm still just

using the Cali. duster to collect a little dust...[^]

MrE - The tires are awesome! I drove around Friday night with a few inches on the ground and my only regret was that I didn't put these on my 328 when I had it. Winters with those all-season tires were pretty slippery. I had absolutely no problems going up hills doing 10mph in my neighborhood or doing 50mph on the highway. I actually went to two hills that my old car could never get up with snow, and I stopped on the middle of both of them and stepped on the gas and and the car just went. The tires didn't slip, i didn't fishtail, it was awesome. My sister has the LM-22's on her 325 as well and she experienced the same results with hers. You feel like you have total control over you car at all times. I highly recommed them. [:D]

It was snowing up here, Ottawa, Canada last week and I took the car for a spin with four new Pirelli snow sport 210. I was really impress with the traction, I have Michellin Actic Alpine on my civic and I have to say that the Pirelli has better traction. It was able to handle 2 to 3 inches of snow without a problem. The DSC kick in often, but it more my heavy foot that the tire. I always said that in winter you should always use good winter tires, 4 season are not build to handle winter, they are usually good for one winter, and after that they should be used for summer driving.

My only complaint is that the from windshield is always a little foggy when the Automatic climater control is on. The only way to get the fog out is to put the defrost on, then its becomes way to warn in the car. Anybody else had this problem, or I still do not know how to use the ACC.

Actually, I wanted to take it out this week-end to have some fun with the RWD and the Pilot Sport's, but I wasn't able to. My driveway is still very icy and it is long and uphill. So once I get down to the street, there is no way I am getting back up. My car has been in the garage since Thursday afternoon. Tomorrow when I drive to my dorm at my school, I'll try to find a poorly plowed street and see if I can have some fun. [driving]
