[:(] Icy driveways are no fun. I don't know which campus you go to, Garden City I would assume, but the roads out here on LI are pretty much cleared off already. It seems that they forgot to plow any of my schools (Hofstra) parking lots. So if you are looking for some snowy roads/parking lots to play in we have got plenty here. [wave] [:D]

waiting for my Blizaks!

Yeah, my stock tires are pretty worthless in winter. Ordered my LM-22 Blizaks last week from Tire Rack on steel wheels, can't wait to try them out. Anyone have experience with these tires? I looked at the cornering/handling ratings and they seemed a lot better than the 50's.

Wow, you go to Hofstra?? That is only like 10-15 minutes away from my school. You are right, I am at the Garden City campus of Adelphi University. Actually I am at school right now and I didn't have the greatest time getting here. The lower half of my driveway was still snow-covered so I was basically sliding down it and on the way here, every time I drove over even the smallest bit of snow during acceleration, the rear tires would lose traction completely. And when I got to my campus, the entire campus was still covered in snow. I was driving around at very low speeds (being a parking lot and all) and I still had a tough time getting around...the rear tires just kept spinning loose. Needless to say, I did not have a good time, especially when I got there and saw how disgustingly dirty my car was from the drive over here. [:(!]

beemerider, if you go to Page 2 of this topic, you will see that Tweet is running LM-22's on her 330CiC and she had a great experience with them in the snow. [:)]

Yes, Hofstra is my home away from Jersey[:)] I can't believe you really had that much trouble with the pilot sports. I knew they wouldn't be good for getting through any relatively deep snow, but I never imagined that you would lose traction so easily on such small amounts of snow. I got back here last night and my car is incredibly dirty too [:(] I need to find a way to get the salt & dirt off of my car this week[rolleyes] Good Luck driving in the snow!

Yeah, I was somewhat surprised, as well. I mean, I know they are bad in the snow, but some streets had some left-over slush/crap snow and when I accelerated over a bit of that, the rear wheels would lose traction and I wasn't accelerating hard or anything.
There is a car wash on Jericho Turnpike (25) heading towards the Cross Island Parkway entrance...they charge kind of a lot but it gets the job done.

Are you planning on putting snow tires on your car since the pilot sports handle so poorly on these road conditions? Also, do you know what the name of the car wash is?

I would really like to get snow tires, but I don't know if it's worth it, because if it's snowing out, I just wouldn't drive. If I did have to drive, then I would just use the SUV, anyways. I think this is a lesson that from now on, I should only look into AWD cars and plan on getting snow tires for the winter.

Edit: I don't know the name of the car wash, honestly. I asked my roommate and he doesn't know the name either, we just know where it's located. I'll try to look it up for you.

If I had a "backup" SUV, I probably wouldn't have put snows on my car either. I understand you only wanting to look into AWD cars, I just wish BMW made an AWD convertible. Thanks for looking into the car wash info!

I believe this is the car wash that I am talking about, since it is the only car wash in Garden City on Jericho Turnpike:
HIGH TECH CAR WASH INCORPORATED
2450 JERICHO TPKE, NEW HYDE PARK, NY 11040
Phone: (516) 747-3050

Here is one on Hempstead Turnpike (closer to your school, right?):
ELMONT CAR WASH
1710 HEMPSTEAD TPKE, ELMONT, NY 11003
Phone: (516) 616-0915

I have definetly heard of High Tech before. They are actually pretty close to equal distance from me (about 10 mintues) but Elmont may be a little farther. I'll try High Tech tomorrow after class. Thanks for you help![:)]

I really like my LM-22's but I have never driven with the M2's. Comparison wise, I think they are pretty equal - it's just personal preference.

tks for the input, tweet. i just ordered a snow package from aaarims with the dunlops...they're a little cheaper than the blizzaks. once i get my car (330i still on order) and i get the snows on it i'll let you guys know how they are. in any case...in the snow i'll have the wife's trusty civic to get me around and at least the bimmer will have snow tires on it in case of unexpected snow storms.

I took my 2000 Trans Am, WS6 with drag tires on in the snow once. What a blast!!! But I will never do it again!!! I just bought the 2004 330XI with Sport Package (but they only change the rims and seats with sport package on awd bimmer's). I have only gotten to take the car out in the sleet, and must I say I was driving more aggressive in the sleet then if it were nice out!!! Awesome gripping!!! I can't wait to test it in the snow.. I'm in Suburbs of Chicago so it shouldn't be long until it starts snowing. Actually we have about an inch on the ground now from overnight, but my car is in service to put on the clear Teflon front and rear guard. I also just order the 2004 330Cic Convertible with ZHP package. I'm number #1 on the list for April delievery!!! But I don't think that will be a snow car either, hehe!!! I'm selling the Trans Am for it.

Does the 2004 330CI have all wheel drive?? If so, what year did they start that, because I know my 2001 doesn't. Also wouldn't all wheel drive, make the ride less smoother than rear wheel???

The '04 330 ci does not have all wheel drive. Only the 325xi and 330xi (both sedans) have all wheel drive. Other then that, the regular sedans, coupes, and converts are all RWD.

TSilver330Ci, the AWD would not make the ride less smooth in any way. It would provide better traction during acceleration and deceleration (assuming compression). The AWD system obviously excels during poor weather such as rain and snow.

Tweet227:

Were the 325 and 330xi always AWD? Or did they just start in 2004?

MrElussive:
IS your infiniti rear wheel? I know rear wheel sucks in bad weather, but I always thought it helped make the ride smoother than front or all wheel. Are there any advantages to rear wheel? thanks man
