XI, The waiting is the worst, but it all goes away the second you see that car on the lot. My brochure is a rag now.

Snow, my dealer called me last night asking me how I like the car. I DO have a few issues with the car, and im bringing it in next week. First my radio is not as bright as the climate control, which makes it hard to see during the day. Second my passenger window doesnt go totaly into the door like the drivers side, it sticks up about 1/2 inch. Not that big of a deal but the drivers side goes completely into the door, so if you put your arm up there its doesnt interfere(wife noticed it when she put her arm there). and Last, he never gave me the servey to fill out so they could program the key/car memory.

He did then ask if I would give him a good report on his servey, I told him I knew it wasnt his fault it took so long, he said thanks and that he was gonna give me some winter mats and some toy cars for my kids, and whatever else he could get his hands on. I hope he comes thru. I also dangled a potential sale in front of him, so that may have helped.

The BMW policy regarding customer surveys is very disturbing, since I was also asked whether my ratings would be "excellent" across the board. They went so far as to comment that if I didn't feel anything was excellent, that we should sit down and talk about it before I do the survey since they want good numbers. For that, I will ask for an "excellent" cash donation since I plan on being brutally honest about my lousy service.

It's too bad you are having a few problems, though they don't seem that hard to fix. Your dealer seems pretty responsive. Good luck with that.

Go Yanks!!

Loon, Snow, Harley, et.al.,

The day has arrived! My dealer called 5 minutes ago. The car hit the lot yesterday (exactly the delivery date posted on the website, strangely enough). I pick it up late tomorrow afternoon. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve! Thanks to all for support during this nail-biting anticipatory period. I cant wait to see the car! Just to remind everybody...it's a 2004 325 xi,
SP, PP, Orient Blue, Sand Leather, 5 speed.

I'll let you know what happens tomorrow. I plan on going over the car with a fine tooth comb and going for an extensive test drive before leaving the dealer. Based on all your experiences with recently delivered cars, is there anything specific I should look out for?

Thanks again! Expect a long post and pics after I take delivery tomorrow![driving]

Congrats Xi Guy! You have pretty much the same car as I do, with the exception of the exterior color. It's really an impressive piece of machinery. Very tight. Feels like an airplane cockpit once you slip into the sports seats.

I haven't had any problems as yet. The most complex part of the car so far has been the NAV system and figuring out all of the things it can do. Everything else is intuitive and well-engineered. Be sure your salesman or delivery coordinator takes the time to go through all the systems and service features. There is also a video that you will get which would answer most of your questions.

Enjoy!

XI, CONGRATS!!! Make sure you get a "Car and Key Memory selection form" today and fill it out so the car is programed when you pick it up. It lets you select a few things, like having the doors lock at 2.5 mph and pathway lighting, and a few other things.

Good luck with it!!!!!! You are gonna love it. im taking the rest of the day off work to go home and wax mine [:)]

Thanks for the support guys. Hey, I wanna ask a few questions. Snow, you may be in the best position to answer since you have basically the same car (I'm jealous over the NAV system though). New for 2004 seems to be feature where, when put into reverse, teh passenger side mirror tilts down. Whats up with that? Is it to give you a better view of curbs so you dont hit them? Please advise.

Also, is the spare full size? IF so, what kind of rim?

Thanks so much. I'm almost there!

Yeah, when you put it into reverse the mirror tilts down to show you the curb. However, if you slide the mirror control lever towards the passenger side the tilting mechanism is disabled. It's a pretty nice feature, especially since the wheels are so nice.

I was very pleased to see that you not only get a full sized spare tire in the floor of the trunk, but also the correct rim.

The NAV system is really cool, but I did sacrificed real leather to go with the NAV unit. It was a tough choice. The leatherette is nice, though ultimately not as nice as the leather, but I really wanted to have the GPS in the car and I like having all of the systems run through the LCD screen. It looks really clean and modern.

One question: do you know how to get pictures on these pages?

Snow - thanks for the info. I figured that's what it was for.

I have NO idea how to get pics on these pages. I'm not a computer geek like many
of our board members seem to be. [poke] j/k guys....

Actually me earlirt post is misleading...I DID get leatherette as well. I labored over the decision, but so many owners swear by the leatherette that I went for it. Plus, with a two year old, durability is a major issue for me and the leatherette is clearly more durable than real leather (not that I'm going to let him in teh car anyway!!![:)]

I'll post tomorrow after I take delivery. Looks like it'll be ready at noon EST! Less than 24 hours!!!!!!!

You guys arent gonna beleive this... Spent all day yesterday apllying a few coats on Zaino and the car looks sweet. It looks like a calm lake as my buddy put it.

WELL.... I took the car to an account this morning and after I got back home I noticed that some one rubbed my front bumper and took off a little paint and left a little of there paint. SO now my brand new car is no longer is prestine condition!!! This was so painfull, I wanted to kill some one! Hope my dealer has some touch up paint.

Loon, Snow, Harley.......

ITS PARKED RIGHT OUTSIDE MY OFFICE RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

I got it yesterday but was so full of adrenaline that I never got back to work, much less my computer! The car is absolutely sick. I have driven jap cars my whole life so this is a real treat for me. Snow, you were so right...no body roll whatsoever around tight turns at high speeds. How do they do that!!!???? The five speed is key for me. The clutch is a bit grabby at first but after five minutes the shifts were smooth and comfortable. I havent even tried the radio yet as I'm enjoying getting used to the mild exhaust note and calming purr of the motor.

Got home last night, put my kid to sleep and at 11PM was out cruising again till well past midnight enjoying the red glow of the lights. The car has plenty of power for me. It pulls right thru fourth and even has some pull in fifth. The 330 must be an animal!

The rims are so cool and absolutely make the car. Very tough looking wheel and easy as hell to clean. Again, I'm so impressed with how the car sticks to the road.

I had huge expectations from this car and honestly, it has surpassed my wildest dreams.
I simply couldnt be happier (well, an M3 would be nice). I spent well over an hour with the dealer, checking every little thing. We drove it together for about 30 miles and everything seems OK so far. I have about 200 miles on it already! He gave me a 50 dollar certificate to teh BMW boutique. The 50 bucks got me a cheap mug, a t shirt and some windshield wiper fluid!!!!

Thanks so much you guys for moral support through the white knuckled waiting period. It really helped.

Loon - sorry to hear about the issue with the paint. Touch it up as best as you can and try to forget it. I know the first ding/scratch/whatever is horrible and I dont look forward to it, but
it happens and we gotta deal with it. I plan on parking the car well away from others where possible.

OK a few questions......my dealer (and the car) tell me that the first oil change is like at 15750 miles. Can this be possible? Please advise on how/when I should change oil. Also, do you guys use premium or special unleaded?

Thanks again everyone. Let the good times roll!!!!

You sound so excited.........there are a lot of previous threads about the oil changes, yes BMW recommends every 15,000 miles, but everyone here differs on that subject, I took the advice of many to have it done every 7500 miles (and pay for it) and then BMW change the oil on their nickel every 15,000.

Enjoy the ride.............I'm sure you will be out all weekend.......

Congratulations on your purchase! We BMW people do have a unique ownership mindset don't we? It is great to know there are other people out there that share the enthusiasm (my family calls it "obsessing") of owning one of these machines.

About the oil thing. I have always changed my non-BMWs frequently. Like 3000 min to 7500 max. Even with synthetic oil. But I am going to follow BMWs recommendations on this one.

Two points of view:
1. With the supreme engineering of these cars, surely the engineers have this right too. They know best how to take care of these motors, they're on the inside, we are on the outside.
2. Now that's not to say that we can't be skeptical of big business. For all we know the marketing and sales execs may have overriden the engineers on this one just to create earlier wear and premature failure. Lord knows sales are the most important aspect of the auto industry.

I tend to go with view 1 because it is hard to swallow BMW puposefully shortening the life of their motors.

I have an '01 X5 with the same motor as my 330 (3.0 I6) that has 56K miles on it. I have kept to the recommended maintenance schedule and it still runs like the day I bought it, I swear.

Well good luck again and keep obsessing.
