As I said before, most engines are ready to go right from the start. VW/Audi engines, you can pretty much push them as much as you want during their break-in period. This applies to Mercedes, as well. As for the Mercedes AMG cars, there is no break-in period for the engine...you can just push it as hard as you want...they break it in for you. At the AMG factory, where they hand-build the engines, once each engine is completed, they run the engine all the way to redline and make sure it puts out the rated horsepower (meaning the engine is running properly). After that, they spin the engine at different rpm's to break it in for you. This way, when you take delivery of your brand-new AMG car, you can just drive it how you want and the engine is already perfectly broken-in for you (which is also for the sake of the life of the car).
I have read this somewhere before. I was keeping mine under 4,000 for 500 miles then 5,000 for another 500 or so. I now have 900 miles and think it is probably okay but I am a little unsure about the 6,800 red-line for a while. By the way, why do you think the PP has a 6,800 red-line? Is it not the same basic engine? [???1]

Digging up an oldie! [:D]

My name is Bryan and I'm a newbie here. Hey hey! I own an '01 325i and I know what you guys are talking about. There just ain't no feeling like going fast in total control just like you're doing 70. The stock specs actually limit the 3 series to 128mph, but with the Dinan (and other) software upgrades that is removed. The only limitation then is the car itself, which is rumored to be around 155.

Nice forum you guys got going here.

I have the 04' 325Ci and it is limited to 135mph. Went I went home about two weeks ago and drove my car for the first time (my wife has had it since April while I have been deployed) I drove from Frankfurt to Heidelberg on A5 doing 135 almost the whole way. I am telling you these cars are great. I now have 5400m on the car.

Umm, excuse my blindness - I just noticed where you live. DrPierce, I am envious. I would love to drive a euro-spec 3 series. You guys are way luckier than us humble imports. [:D]

yeah I love driving on the autobahn and there are some awsome winding country road that are really fun too.....It is going to suck when I head back to the states, because my car will probably hardky ever see anything over 75mph.

I went 165 miles in a friend's 98 NSX. I was sitting shotgun and had a video camera, which I aimed at the speedometer. My friend is pretty crazy and has big balls, so he was cool about it, but I was like "holy f---!!!" the whole time. By the way, this wasn't on a track, it was on the highway!! I wonder what people thought when we flew by...

Probably, "Look at those idiots driving that fast on a public highway. It's just a matter of time".

Naw, really they would say, "darn, I sure wish I owned that NSX".

I think they should have an option of having engine already broken-in when you order.
hello 350Z/G35

pre-worked engines. or at least thats what the salesman told me last week when i was flinging their new 350Z around with only 16 miles on it.

Does anyone know if the color of the car has anything to do with the likelyhood of getting a ticket? Just curious. I think that most people think Red cars get more tickets. If that were true I wonder why insurance companies don't charge more for a red car.

My car is ....no surprise...Red.

Insurance companies used to do that...they would charge higher interest rate for red cars (or yellow cars). This is because statistics have shown that red cars get the most tickets. Insurance companies don't do this anymore, however, as they have realized how gay it is to do that.

No insurance companies do not charge anything based on color with the exception of custom paint wherein the owner purchases extra coverage. To my knowledge they never have. Recently the most ticketed color car was white and that is simply because there are more white cars than any other color.

I have hit 110 in the '95 325i you see in my sig and I was amazed how it felt. Didn't even think I was going anywhee close to that speed. I'm just saying this to show how good BMW cars handle at high speed, not only the e46. I can't compare an e36's handling to an e46's handling because I never drove an e46 but e36 does handle great too. The best part of that weekend was driving down a mountain road six times in one day, absolutely awesome. Can't wait till I have a chance to do it again. [thumb]

I pushed it to 135 while on a newer section of freeway with no traffic for a good distance up the road. It was too fast for me, I didn’t like it. But the car was great and handled nicely.

You must have been on 215, westbound...

I have to admit that I ahve gotten up to about the gevernor in my '95 325is. Unlucky for me there was a cop on a bike when i was decelerating (at about 115). Lucky for me he was a really nice guy who complemented me on my car and wrote the ticket.....for only 80 mph. Am I lucky or what!!!![fake] [rofl]

Saw some insurance stats here not long ago, that Black cars make up about 8% of the vehicles on the road but involved in 15% of accidents.

However, 75% of statistics are made-up on the spot.

Getting back to the break in thing. No matter what the salesman says you have to run it for at least 1250miles at varying SPEEDS. The engine can easily be "pre-worked" but ALL moving parts must be worn in. (even speaker components!!!!)
