Given the chose of any super/sports car in the world I too would not choose the Corvette as the car of my choice, but I sure the hell wouldn't turn one down as well.

That is my point, I would not choose it. I had one and have driven a 911 and an MB AMG and I like the performance of the later two a bit better, more of a solid, well connected feel IMO.

Who stated it is 'tops" and "defines performance"? Just what "rest of these guys would go for the Corvette" are you talking about. People here are stating you can't leave out the Corvette, just because you don't like it, think it shouldn’t be considered in the tops with all other sports cars of the world, and use the excuse about the quality being crap to leave it off the list as well. The performance numbers speak for themselves.
Hey "///MSPEED", this is exactly what was posted

"You may not define performance based on the Corvette, but a lot of people do." jrt67ss350

It cannot be mistaken that some define performace by the Corvette, it was said just exactly that way by " jrt67ss350."

It is cool to think that way though, my performance equation just has different factors. Nothing wrong with differences in opinion, hell you guys should be at one of my family gatherings, its like a huge debate match.

Like I said before performance-wise the corvette is a shining star......but that interior has to go. Even with the "two-tone" of the Z06 it is still boring compared to other cars. I have seen much cheaper cars with a much, much prettier interior.......G35sportcoupe anyone????

I agree it does not define it, however it factors into the equation as much as Porsche, MB, Ferrari, etc... All as a sum equal out to define what are the base/top standards that will equal the whole. One cannot rule out any of them.

This is a very good discussion and could never be completely resolved as every opinion has valid points. [:)]

lol, G35 doesn't have a cheap interior...I drove a I30 for 3 years and it was very nice and well made. The definitive Infiniti clock in the console is a great touch and I think that the orange luminance of the G35 is way nicer than the white instrument lights on most cars (and it's digital looking). The needles look like they are suspended in air. The one thing that I do not like is the fact that I can see the design of the G35 getting outdated fast, Infiniti has a problem with constantly changing their designs.

Yep, you sure could. I guarantee you that you could let the thing idle all day long and it wouldn't overheat. Have you ever sat in a C5 Corvette? Hell, my ass falls asleep while driving in my 325e for two hours straight. And yes, there is a cupholder in the Corvette (not the best, but there is one). I am not lucky enough to have owned one, but I have driven one, and I would welcome the chance to drive one as my daily car on a 40 mile commute. And with standard traction control and an awesome active handling system, you can truly drive the 405 hp Z06 in any weather all while getting 19/28 mpg. [;)]

You are right about the evolution of the supercar - the lines definitely have become blurred from what was considered a supercar 10 years ago.

In the end, it's all about personal preference. That's why there are so many different cars - if personal preference didn't matter, we'd all be driving government mandated Geo Metros. [xx(]
but your 325e is an '87. the new M3s have got heat and airconditioned laterally supportive seats. I haven't sat in a corvette at all. im probably one of the least qualiied to argue any point about the vettes handling and speed. But thats not what im saying. Im also not saying that you wouldn't enjoy the car once or twice a week on the daily commute for a blast. I do know what its like in similar cars (very low, powerful, race cars) to sit in traffic and crawl along for hours. Its not nice and until youv'e actually experianced this in a car like that you really don't know what its like. IMHO Ferraris, Astons, Lambos, (oh go on then) the corvette should be looked at and driven HARD not stuck on the M25 ring road around london getting the seats drenched in sweat from your ass. thats just a waste.

THATS WHAT I AM SAYING!!! The G35 is cheaper than a Corvette, a Little slower[;)] , good handling, and STILL has a top notch interior that is progressive and not outdated...........nuff said.

Okay, I don't understand the argument here. The Corvette is a better-handling car than the 911 Turbo...it has been proven time and time again...what's the big deal?? Believe it or not, it has been proven with numbers. The Corvette Z06 is around $50K...personally, I would rather have an M3 for that price, but you gotta respect what the Z06 has to offer. It's kinda like how the Mini Cooper out-handles the M3. It has a base price of $16,000 or so and it out-handles a $50,000 M3. We all know that price is not dependant on performance alone, but on quality altogether. The $120,000 that you put in for the 911 Turbo is for the Porsche look, the status, the build quality, the performance, and the way it makes you feel when you drive it, because let's face it, the 911 Turbo doesn't have the nicest interior.
I think I am arguing several different things, but my basic point is that the Corvette out-handles and keeps up with the greatest of sports cars. IMO, they are kind of white trashy and have a poor interior, but you HAVE to respect it as what it is...a hard-core sports car.
And as for reliability, there are plenty of old-ass Corvettes running around. [;)]

BMWRocks...similar experience the other day. A 93 Acura TOTALLY cuts me off at 90 while I was going around 70. I got pissed and popped my baby into 4th and was up on his tail going 100 in no time. He kept pushing his car and before we knew it, we were going 120. His shitty 4 cylinder was probably close to redlining and got nervous, so he pulls over to the right. My car was smooth at 120...i was shocked. Absolutely a smooth ride even at that speed.

I'm at 1,200miles (after only 3 weeks!! ~ yeah i commute 90 miles a day) and was a bit nervous that i got it close to redline, but if it was, it was only for a few seconds.

Thats funny my crappy 4cyl feels great all the way to the gear limited 155mph top speed....maybe we can run side by side one day and compare how crappy my car is to the 93 Acura....since my car is Acura powered and all [hihi]

Just as a matter of interest, I decided to floor my steptronic in Sport mode yesterday from a rolling start in second gear.

I was glancing at the tach and without skipping a beat, the thing accelerated all the way to the red line before shifting ever so quickly into third. I don't know what my speed was and I had to let off as someone pulled out in front of me from a side street.

What a rush it was. everyone needs to try it as it's insanely cool how perfectly controlled the tranny is.

Funniest part is my 13 yr old daughter was in the car and after it was over she was like "Dad why did you do that?". Of course you guys know the line of thinking that inspires a spontaneous flooring. No explanantion needed.

BTW she had experienced many WOT runs in my 99 Trans Am over the years.

Ha ha, that's great. That reminds me of when my sister was little. Whenever I would take her somewhere in my Camaro, she would always say, "Justin, make the 'Marro get loud. Make it go vroooooom!" I always laughed - thought that was the cutest thing. She always got a kick out of it when I put my foot into it a little bit. Now she wants to get a Porsche Boxter or 911 convertible when she gets older - a budding gearhead! [;)]

MrEllusive and //M Speed,

I'm glad there at least a couple people here who see things the same way I do. Makes me feel better. [;)]
No need to feel bad about all of this. It is all relative and takes into account individual perception and experience. I have had a Corvette and would never have another, that’s just me. I found poor door fit, too much rattle noise, too much wind noise and not as tight of a feel as I would have liked. To others, it is one of the finest cars around and I am sure in many ways it is. MrEllusive. I am not sure where you are getting you information but I have NEVER seen a test where the Corvette beats the 911. But I do agree with the reviews "performance bargain" position.

Through the slalom and lane change, the Vette was perfectly balanced thanks to its transaxle drivetrain. Even with its traction control turned off, this car is nearly idiotproof. And it would be the fastest car we've ever tested through the lane change if the Viper and the Porsche didn't exist.

One disappointment, however, is the Vette's skidpad performance. The track was slick that day, but .79 g is not much better than we've run in a Volkswagen Passat.

So, was the Corvette out of its performance class? Maybe.
