I actually hit 130.5 with the 325i and could probably have gotten more only there was an upcoming curve and I wasnt gonna take a curve at that speed. I dont think the 128 limiter exists. But i noticed that up a hill on the highway it would max out at 119 pushed down all the way..... This is a 03' 325i (bmwusa says its limited at 128)

What did you think of 130? I tried 135 and did not like it, too many variables. I think it would be different on a nice clean track that you were sure a truck did not drop a 4x4 post in the road or something.

I guess since I am used to drivng on the autobahn now, that 135mph really doesn't bother me at all. Everything just feel smooth. You know how people have there cruising speed(the speed that they are comfortable going), well for me it is easily between 120 and 135mph, mabye faster if the car wasn't limited.

I want to know how you make the transition from being comfortable at 80-90 (most of us) to comfortable at 120+?????

Am I the only one who cannot identify with being comfortable cruising at 120+?

I know I can't identify with it. Just thinking about what would happen if something minute went wrong with the car or the road at that kind of speed is enough to keep me from being comfortable at those kinds of speeds. I lived in Munich for two years when I was little, and I can remember riding on the autobahn in our Mercedes. I was just talking to my dad about that the other week when we were driving from Greenville, SC to Charlotte, NC in my E30. He said that when we would drive on the autobahn he used to do about 110 mph. He said that the car was stable and would certainly do more, but it was stressful and tiring driving at those speeds for long periods of time. He said it's amazing how much concentration it takes, and how no matter how fast you are going, there will always be someone going faster. He said the hardest part about driving over 100 mph was trying to read the roadsigns and translate them from German to English - by the time you could half figure out what they were saying, they were gone!

At 135 the stopping distance in my car was soooo long. I could have never stopped in even close to a resonable distance, even with the upgrades and the M Motorsport division suspension it was not a smooth stop. We are talking 45 MPH over the 90 mark, a big percentage increase in speed, and a gigantic difference in slowing or stopping distance. Just the reaction time at 135 results in a long travel distance before the foot even touches the brake.

I found this on the Internet:

The 'braking distance' is the distance traveled by the vehicle from the point the driver first applies the brake to the place it comes to a complete rest. This distance increases dramatically with speed - at 40 mph the braking distance is 80ft (24m) but at 60 mph (one and a half times the speed) the braking distance is 180ft (55m), more than double the distance. Add the thinking distance and braking distance together and you get the overall stopping distance. At 70 mph this is a staggering 315ft (96m). Put another way it is equal to 24 car lengths. Even at 30 mph the overall stopping distance is 75ft (23m) or 6 car lengths.

I'm pretty sure even our pontiac montana can stop faster than 6 car lengths at 30mph...

Don't use car lengths, that is a stupid inaccurate measurement. The BMW 330i can stop from 60mph to 0mph in 126 feet (according to Edmunds.com), which is a damn respectable length. The greatest of sports cars stop from 60mph between 110-120 feet.

Well the highway was empty except for blown out truck tires on the side of the road every so often, but 130 was a bit too fast considering you dont know what to expect turning the corner, but the Bmw does a suprisingly good job taking a highway curve at 90.

I agree. I think they sometimes use car lengths because some may understand it better, or it may convey a stronger message to some. I agree, the 330i has stopping power that many cars do not, and it is very close to some of the greatest of sports cars. 135 is just fast and takes a lot of concentration and time to adjust.

[confused] How sad you define performance by the Corvette.
I challenge you to find a production car that can outperform a Corvette Z06 off the lot either on a road course or on a dragstrip for even close to its price - $52,000. You may not define performance based on the Corvette, but a lot of people do.

We are not talking price, it is not a factor, just what defines performance. I will work on a LIST of those that trash the Corvette. Not to say that Corvette is bad, I am not saying that, but it is far from the best high speed car. I would feel much better in an M5 at higher speeds than a Corvette. The quality is just not there for the Corvette.

You guys can take the Corvette. I will take this. [thumb] [wave]

Funny how the review posted below does not even mention the Corvette. [burnout]
